Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 10, 2015 2:00 pm There have been a few threads on slabs recently and as we are not far away from getting ours poured I am considering getting an inspection completed to make sure everything is A-Ok. My question is which is best - Pre-pour or post? I can see benefits of both. One company we have looked at does it pre-pour but then doesn't check the slab until the roof frame is up. That seems a bit late if there are cracks etc. The other company does a post-pour inspection. So they don't check the pipes etc except for positioning once the slab is down, but it's before any bricks go on etc so any cracks should be dealt with more easily. What are people's opinions on which is best? Re: Pre-Slab Inspection or Post Slab Inspection?? 3Mar 10, 2015 3:00 pm pre-slab inspection! the amount of pre-slabs ive seen without enough damp course laid, mesh not over lapping enough or missing, corner bracing missing its all shocking! Re: Pre-Slab Inspection or Post Slab Inspection?? 4Mar 10, 2015 8:00 pm I voted pre-slab but I think a frame/slab inspections is important Re: Pre-Slab Inspection or Post Slab Inspection?? 5Mar 11, 2015 10:47 am Thanks for the replies. Looks like pre is the way to go which I was kind of edging towards too. Just need to let RedInk know as they were only going to get in touch once the slab was down - this could be interesting! Re: Pre-Slab Inspection or Post Slab Inspection?? 6Mar 11, 2015 12:38 pm I do a lot of pre slab inspections and can see limited value in it after the slab is poured Firstly you cannot check formwork lines, builders plastic, position of pipe risers (or if they are loose) reinforcing and termite protection. It's also too late for general set out, site excavation, levels and drainage. At frame inspection any problems will be apparent and usually can be fixed.
