Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 01, 2015 1:01 pm Hi all, we will be doing our colour selections in the next few weeks & are trying to decide on colours prior to the appointment. We have 2 kids under 5years old. Hubby & I just can't agree on floor choices. We are having tiles throughout & carpet in bedrooms & media room. Hubby wants black carpet & white or light colour tiles. I want dark brown or darker grey carpet & light grey tiles. I would love to have white tiles but I just think I will be forever cleaning them? Anyone that have kids can you please tell me what colour floors you have or wish you had? We are really stuck on this one, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Re: Best floor colours with kids?? 2Mar 01, 2015 1:23 pm Black carpet is great . Believe it or not light tiles seem to show less except it is the grout that gets dirty. Stay away from black tiles in my opinion more work . But the grey would be nice too . Re: Best floor colours with kids?? 4Mar 01, 2015 4:32 pm We've got light grey tiles and chocolate carpets. They actually look more like a dark grey then chocolate. We like the dark carpets because it hides stains better but it does show up every spec of dust. We love our grey tiles, they're almost a polished concrete look. We've had white and cream tiles in rentals we've lived in and I think the grey shows the dirt about the same as the lighter tiles. :-D Modified Miami 31- Brighton Homes https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=91265&f=31&p=1789112#p1789112 Re: Best floor colours with kids?? 7Mar 04, 2015 6:13 pm I've had white tiles before and never again. My advice though is to get something textured. It'll still show dust but not footprints etc. Re: Best floor colours with kids?? 8Mar 04, 2015 6:57 pm I'd go something with a bit of a pattern to it. We have black tiles in our bathroom and they show every last water mark, fallen hair and piece of dust. We've chosen a mid grey with a subtle variance throughout it to avoid the dirty look next time! We have a young child, and haven't had too much worry about the colour. If people walk in with wet dirty shoes they leave marks, but are quite easy to clean. Re: Best floor colours with kids?? 10Mar 08, 2015 7:22 pm Thankyou everyone for your replies. I am stuck between the two colour choices: -Large Tile is floor -top left is kitchen bench colour -first sample on floor tile is bottom kitchen cupboard & next to this is top kitchen cupboards. -Big white tile is for shower & pattern tile is feature in bathroom -first sample on shower tile is bathroom vanity cupboard & next to this is top of vanity. -Bottom right tile is laundry/ bathroom & WC Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ [/img] Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Our builder only does colour packages so we can't choose our own which is a shame. I really want a light white kitchen but am not sure about the dark brown floor tiles? I like the light floor tiles but don't want the dark kitchen bench?! Most of our furniture is timber & dark brown. I would like to buy a white dining room table with brown chairs. The pre chosen colour selections are driving me crazy! Any help would be MUCH appreciated! Re: Best floor colours with kids?? 11Mar 08, 2015 9:27 pm Geez thats a hard one . So is it a big no from your builder if you change a bench top colour or can you change and pay a difference . If I had to choose It would be the second one . I know you wont a light kitchen but I dont think the brown will look bad . But in saying that I have brown tiles in my bathroom and out of all of my tiles easiest to clean . But as a whole package no 2 for me . Re: Best floor colours with kids?? 13Mar 29, 2016 8:16 pm Pink86 Thankyou everyone for your replies.
