Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 26, 2015 2:29 pm Hi guys, We are quite far along in our build stage, just a few weeks from practical completion. The taps are being installed today and the hot water system has been delivered, apparently the plumber is coming to connect the house to water next week. Is this a normal progression? My logical progression would have been water connected -> hot water system installed -> taps/mixers/showers etc. Thanks! Re: When does the water usually get connected? 3Feb 27, 2015 1:42 pm My water billing started before they even put a slab on the block. How do they test the hot water system at installation if the water isn't connected? Do they have to come back once the water is connected and test it, or do we just hope it's ok? Re: When does the water usually get connected? 4Feb 27, 2015 1:59 pm I had water connected before I started second fix. Temporary screw on caps were installed over all the brass connectors (i.e. without any internal taps installed or wall tiling started). External taps were installed early and used for washing plastering tools etc. This way leaks could be detected if any pipes had been hit by a nail or if any connections were faulty before tiling, plastering or internal painting commenced. Re: When does the water usually get connected? 5Mar 08, 2015 2:22 pm Well, this week has come and gone and my water is still not connected. I am wondering if I will move into my house before the water is connected at this rate. I am sure the water should have been connected before ceiling/white set. The builders were originally using next door's water meter because water corp did not install my water meter, however when the house next door was built, they connected the water meter to the house in the first week of August. The water meter on my property was not installed until about November, and still hasn't been connected to the house, despite over 30000 litres of water being used from it. Re: When does the water usually get connected? 6Mar 18, 2015 12:37 pm Well, still not connected. The fact is painfully reinforced by a dump sitting in my toilet, which obviously doesn't flush, but I guess someone realized that after the event, and tried to flush it out with a hose or bucket because there is water in there now.. I took a picture of it for some reason, but I'm not going to post that here I guess I can't blame the contractor, because they're doing final house finishings like the bathroom mirror, I guess they would have been pretty surprised to find out the toilet doesn't flush. What a nice way to find out Re: When does the water usually get connected? 7Mar 18, 2015 4:05 pm Similar to Beetaloo, our water has been connected ever since the plumbing was roughed in with the ends capped off. I'm assuming they do this to show any leaks during build. So far, so good! We're currently at gyprock stage. What a nice way to find out Didn't the builder supply a port-a-loo? I'd be furious if a tradesman used my new toilet! Re: When does the water usually get connected? 9Mar 18, 2015 4:18 pm enkayz despite over 30000 litres of water being used from it. Are you growing rice? That's alot of water! Husband looked at our meter today and so far it's 1 kilolitres. Are you sure you read it correctly? Black numbers are kilolitres and red numbers are litres. Re: When does the water usually get connected? 10Mar 19, 2015 4:10 pm I have filled a pool which used 15,000 litres, however the meter was already at 11,000 litres at that point. I am not sure what they are doing, but I suspect much more water has been used than really needed to be. It would be nice if they had connected it to my house already! I suspect that people have been using way more water than they need to simply because of the massive mains pressure! I'm not sure why people think it's okay to use my toilet. Maybe I should demand a new toilet that hasn't been used by a tradesman. Good thing I have a picture.. ewwww. Re: When does the water usually get connected? 13Mar 20, 2015 11:50 am Water was connected to the block a long time ago, the water meter reads some 36000 litres. But the meter is not yet connected to my house, so my almost-completely-finished-inside house has no water to test the showers, taps, toilets etc. I guess they are going to come back and test them when the water is connected? One can only hope. The plumbers have been there for about 2 months on and off, and still haven't connected the mains water, I'm getting a bit irate about it. Depends how much direct sun it gets. Is there any shading (eaves or trees)? If the sun hits a window directly it doesn't matter too much if it's double or single… 1 12647 9 24757 Congratulations!
