Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 25, 2015 5:33 pm Hi, Has anyone applied to have there powerdome's relocated by Western Power? If so how much did it cost? Thanks!! First they have to letterbox drop the catchment area letting neighbours know they are going to turn the utility off, then they need a day to do it, you will also have to pay for a new dome, because the old one will not be reusable. Then you also have to pay for them to update all their geocache system as everything is electronically pegged by the utility company. It's a bit of a rort. Oh and give yourself a few months for the red tape party. Noone can make a decision, it has to go through at least three or four departments. For the record, the bill with Water Corp was about $4k ... hence why we chose to leave the hydrant where it is and negotiate about a cast iron cover to drive on. What kind of cover did you use? What type of hydrant was it??? Sounds interesting My Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=74866 Re: Application for relocation/removal of Western Power asse 4Feb 25, 2015 5:47 pm for the princely sum of $500 WC provide a cast iron traffic lid and surround that gets put over the hydrant space and then you lay your driveway around it. Then there is their cost to send a truck out to install said cast iron lid. Under legislation, no one other than WC can touch said hydrant so you have no choice but to pay up. As I said, red tape. Re: Application for relocation/removal of Western Power asse 5Feb 27, 2015 5:11 pm Anyone else had this issue? After lots of emails and calls, it turns out to be bad communication between the developer and Western Power about the locations of the services. The developer signs off on what Western Power engineers have drawn up, without checking where people's driveways etc are. Plus when my survey was down, the powerdome wasnt installed and we had already chosen the house design etc by then. In hind site on the next piece of land I buy I will ensure I have the services info before I buy. My options are now: - Flip the house design (not really good, cause then my side entrance will be in between my house and the neighbours garage) - Get Western Power to move the dome - in the thousands, waiting for quote to come back - Deal with the dome being in my driveway.... FFS! My Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=74866 Re: Application for relocation/removal of Western Power asse 6Feb 27, 2015 5:29 pm That's normally how it works and was in our case. The developer has guidelines to place utilities and services at certain positions on the block. Sometimes it is legislation which dictates where things go (in our case, fire hydrants are 400m apart and are to be placed central to the block frontage, where most people have there drive way, duh!). Other times it is the utility who dictate. Hate to be a pessimist, but the developer won't cough (ours won't) and as the land purchaser, it is your responsibility to identify these things before signing. As was so nicely pointed out to us by WC, regardless that there was nothing on site plans, builders survey, council notations etc. Re: Application for relocation/removal of Western Power asse 7Feb 27, 2015 5:46 pm Yeh these developers are very sn ea ky to say the least. Where about's are you building? (Lol the forum wouldnt let me say the full word above haha) My Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=74866 Thanks for the response! However, it's have been sorted.
