Browse Forums Building A New House Re: NATIONAL HOMES Build - Bicton WA - SLAB DOWN 21Oct 23, 2015 8:44 pm So the last 3 weeks have not been too bad. Power has been run, the storm drains installed, site cleaned, and the bricks delivered. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ That said I was told the brick laying would start this week, but that does not seemed to have happened. I will get onto National on Monday and see what's up. -----=======----- By the way, I am looking for someone to install a smallish limestone retaining wall across the back of the block. Can anybody recommend anyone? Thanks Re: NATIONAL HOMES Build - Bicton WA - SLAB DOWN 22Oct 31, 2015 10:24 am Hi Tim BTW make sure they use some rods why? Low long walls have a tendency to crack.. the rods will give you extra capacity in bending stressess Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: NATIONAL HOMES Build - Bicton WA - SLAB DOWN 23Nov 18, 2015 12:21 am Yay - bricks!! The bricks are going down, being expertly laid by Giles. Thanks Giles, I think it is looking fantastic. Below is his progress after two weeks. And I am loving the colour, so glad it is turning out OK. Re: NATIONAL HOMES Build - Bicton WA - BRICKS 24Nov 18, 2015 8:20 am I really like your plan with the raked ceiling. It's all looking good. What colour are your bricks? We are chasing a colour just like that. What colour roof are you going to have with it? Re: NATIONAL HOMES Build - Bicton WA - BRICKS 25Nov 19, 2015 1:24 am Thanks for the comment nelleebellee. The brick colour is BGC Minilya. The roof colour will be Colorbond Basalt. We did umm and ahhh on the roof colour quite a lot (it was going to be Surfmist at one point) but I think it should look OK with the grey. We do have white window frames and white gutters, fascias as well. I am a little nervous about it really as it is a bit hard to imagine it all, but time will tell. Re: NATIONAL HOMES Build - Bicton WA - BRICKS 26Nov 19, 2015 9:42 am We can only choose from Midland brick or Austral so I will have to see if they have a similar brick to the BGC Minilya. We will go with a grey roof too, either windspray, wallaby or basalt. Looking forward to seeing your roof on! Re: NATIONAL HOMES Build - Bicton WA - BRICKS 27Nov 20, 2015 12:35 am We considered all the same roof colours as you. We chose Basalt because we thought Windspray might be too light a colour, and Wallaby has a green tinge to it I did not think would match the rest of the house. I did read somewhere that roofs tend to look lighter than the colour they really are because of the reflected light from above. Hence the selection of the darker Basalt. I think the Austral Brick Menzies from the Western Range is a close match to the BGC Minilya. Re: NATIONAL HOMES Build - Bicton WA - BRICKS 28Nov 20, 2015 8:34 am Hi Timwa I cant see a DPC around the slab edge..Please check your engineering drawings usually its 1. Upturned poly 2. Protective waterproof coating eg Blue, green 3. Waterproof cement parging you might also want to follow this up with your SS Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: NATIONAL HOMES Build - Bicton WA - BRICKS 29Nov 29, 2015 11:05 am Hi SBG, I had a chat with the bricklayer about this and he showed me your Option 3 (Waterproof cement parging) being used. The colour of it is a sort of creamy colour, so it does not really stand out in the photos. It is a different colour to the slab, and the regular cream mortar so it is visible. Thanks for the heads up. Re: NATIONAL HOMES Build - Bicton WA - BRICKS 30Nov 29, 2015 11:59 am Important drawing details are to a higher Scale, say 1:50,1:20 for a reason, etc Tips 1: So Should be your photos 2. Once covered often forgotten,so I ask guys that work for me to send me appropriate photos 3. Always check your photos against Engineering Details/Drawing, codes for compliance, etc 4. Things can be easily fixed then and there, not so by the following trades later on HTH Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: NATIONAL HOMES Build - Bicton WA - BRICKS 31Dec 12, 2015 2:03 am Hi everyone (and mum ). I have some more progress pictures to share. As of today, the brickwork is prolly 95% complete, and the roof carpentry is maybe 90% done. Pretty happy with this progress. It is good to see the house at this stage, it is really starting to take shape and you can see what it is going to look like. I am really liking the raked ceiling/alfresco combination. I wonder what the builders will do next? Re: NATIONAL HOMES Build - Bicton WA - ROOF 32Jan 18, 2016 5:54 pm Hi timwa, how's the build going? Any pic of the roof yet? Re: NATIONAL HOMES Build - Bicton WA - ROOF 33Jan 18, 2016 11:51 pm Hi nelleebellee (that's a lot of e's!) So actually, the roof just went on last Thursday. The build has been going OK with the first run of electrical and plumbing mostly done (some small electrical errors, but no biggies), and now the roof is on. I presume the first internal render might start soon. The roof pics are here: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Overall I am very happy with how this is looking. I think the roof colour (Basalt) is a great match for the bricks. The gutters/fascias/eaves/windows will all be white (Surfmist) so I hope it all goes together well. I also plan on having white plantation shutters in the windows to give some more white trim. I am going for a bit of a traditional type look. Very keen to see it all come together. Re: NATIONAL HOMES Build - Bicton WA - ROOF 34Jan 19, 2016 5:59 pm Wow, Tim it looks great. I love the colour combo. Argh, my hubby convinced me to go with Windspray and now I want Basalt. I will have to show him your pics. He is worried that the darker colour will fade over time. Re: NATIONAL HOMES Build - Bicton WA - ROOF 35Jan 20, 2016 12:30 am Yes, I think Windspray would be too light for bricks such as we have. We did consider Wallaby, but there is a bit too much green tinge in it for mine. Remember, that the roof colour you choose will seem much lighter when installed than it does on the colour chips. Re: NATIONAL HOMES Build - Bicton WA - Lock Up! 36Mar 09, 2016 11:57 pm Wow - it's been a while between drinks around here, so time for an update. My house achieved Lock Up status in late Feb, approx 5 months after the siteworks began. In the scheme of things that is prolly not too bad, tho of course is slower than advertised. At least something does appear to happen each week, which is something. Anyways, onto the pics: The front door has been installed, and aside from the scratch on it, we are very happy. We think it looks great! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And as you can see here, the glass is installed too. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The painting has started as well - we are going with white for the trims like windows and gutters. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And the cabinet install has begun as well. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ With this photo, you can also see the raked ceiling that is over the kitchen dining area. This is a bit hard to photograph with my phone, but you kinda get the idea. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Not sure how long till the benchtops go on, hopefully soon. We also have the pre-tiling meeting next week as well, so that will be interesting to see what we actually picked all those months ago! 1 4699 Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 7 17630 3 48415 |
