Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Does steel roof affect telecommunication reception? 2Feb 17, 2015 3:06 pm In a word yes. However unless the rest of the house structure is steel you are unlikely to have issues. Cell phone reception may be an issue if you are in low signal area as may reception of 3g/4g internet connections. In a normal City, strong signal service areas, ie near cellular towers I wouldn't expect a problem. An external antenna is an option if the device support one (many wireless internet dongles do) Wi Fi should not be an issue because it's short range and all devices are likely to be beneath the roof. Likewise for bluetooth devices. For Digital TV, free to air you will need an external antenna. As will FM. AM should be OK. DAB reception is likely to be highly dependent on you location (signal strength) and the placement of the receiver in the house, reception is likely to be better towards the outside, ie nearest the eaves. Re: Does steel roof affect telecommunication reception? 3Feb 17, 2015 5:29 pm If you mean a steel roof, aka colourbond, then unless you are in a valley where mobile reception isn't the greatest, you shouldn't have too much of a problem. As mentioned, if it is a steel frame and trusses, then it will have some effect on everything to a greater or lesser degree. Definately if out of town, put your TV aerial above the roof, i.e. on a j pole or similar. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld.
