Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 12, 2015 1:56 pm Thought I would start a thread on my new build
I had a few followers on the last build I did (see: http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63391 ) - so I figured I would do another! It's a small lot build on a 10m*51m block. With the intro of the new Brisbane City plan last year - there is additional scope for size on these blocks so we've put together an approx 400sqm house. The idea for this one is large, open and convertible spaces. Think 2.75m x 3m surface sliding doors so you can either have rooms open or segregated and cornerless bi-fold door suites so the transition inside/outside is pretty seamless. This is the block that she will be going on (it will be on the left hand side - pictures show a double block): We are also going to have a 4m x 7m pool so will be left with a decent yard still. House takes up most of the width of the block though. The external elevation is going to be a combination of rendered brick, liner cladding, timber cladding and a roof form that folds down and frames the entry. It's a little bit hard to explain - but the effect will hopefully be that of the roof continuing down the front of the house. It's not going to be standard colourbond-ish material though (with exposed fixings etc) - but another product that gives more of a zinc like cladding finish. Elevation in a little bit more detail: Site was cut this morning so barring rain - progress should hopefully be pretty good for the next few months! Hoping to have it finished in August - but earlier is always better . Will update as it goes if there is some interest! Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Getting started. 2Feb 12, 2015 3:03 pm Posting to follow, what an interesting build. Just had a look at your last build - WOW!! My build thread: Custom build on 40 acres viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75656 Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Getting started. 3Feb 12, 2015 4:54 pm Can't wait to see it unfold your last home was stunning!!! Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Getting started. 4Feb 12, 2015 5:04 pm Thanks very much! I may be biased - but I think this one will be even better. It is 50sqm bigger than the last one.. but we are trying to make it a lot more "homely" rather than the sleek modernist of the last house. Think american oak timber floors rather than the grey tiles, timber cabinetry and built-ins, marble splashbacks and ensuite tiles etc etc. Hopefully it will all come together well! Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Getting started. 5Feb 12, 2015 6:32 pm Love the oak floor idea, will definitely give a warmer feel. Have you considered vinyl planks? We haven't laid them yet but will be. My build thread: Custom build on 40 acres viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75656 Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Getting started. 6Feb 12, 2015 8:07 pm Yes interested! Elevations look fabulous. Are you doing those yourself? Same builder? I love the wood finishes. Is this one for you? http://www.housebythewater.wordpress.com From blank block to new home in Mandurah, Western Australia. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65564 Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Getting started. 7Feb 12, 2015 10:25 pm Thanks MnT and HBTW!! MnT- to be honest ... I haven't considered vinyl planks. I like matching the stairs to the floors so want to go the hardwoods. HBTW..thanks for the kind words! Makes it more rewarding when forumers like you follow threads! I am using the same team as the last house so my architect has done the elevations. I did have plenty of input though . See how we go... It's getting harder and harder (and wayyyyyy more expensive) to get land in the areas I like so I'll have to stay somewhere soon ! I for one am looking forward to all your updates and seeing your style and vision come together Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Getting started. 11Feb 13, 2015 9:01 am I feel like this (and your last house) deserves to be on Grand Designs Australia. [sneakersss] Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Getting started. 12Feb 13, 2015 1:57 pm You guys are too kind ! Whilst I wish it was good enough to be on GDA.. I would love to have a house featured on there! Maybe one day . Pool was all dug today and the site cut completed.. so I'll take some pics of that for you guys over the weekend! Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Getting started. 13Feb 16, 2015 3:40 pm I don't have too much in the way of updates - on site today the pool is being dug and hopefully sprayed tomorrow afternoon. Soooo.. I thought I would make a post about some of my kitchen selections! I decided to get my architect to do a kitchen design for me for this house too. Overhead view: Just the back wall: 3d: I guess the basis for the design is a functional rear wall - with lots of big drawers and the in-kitchen pantry. The island is biggg (3m*1.5m) however has a good size cantilever on it so not a huge amount of storage there. Dishwasher has been put in the walk in pantry - which made us ask the question.. how do you rinse dishes before they go in there? Answer was to be a bit extravagant - double sink's/taps! The door to the pantry is clear glass - so we wanted to have matching sinks/tapware in there as we have on the island. We had already chosen the Armando Vicario Tink D-B for the kitchen tap: And the duel bowl Franke Kubus sink in Fragranite Onyx finish: So we have put a second of those taps in the pantry too with the biggest single bowl version of the Kubus: Appliances wise - we are going to go very similar to our last house. Ovens: 2 Smeg Linear Pyro in black: Microwave: Smeg Linear convection microwave oven in black. Coffee machine: Smeg Linear in black. Cooktop: Smeg 90cm gas with knobs to match the linear range. Dishwasher: Smeg Semi-Integrated tall tank. With all those boring things out of the way (hopefully I will never have to use any of the above items!!) let's get onto the colours!! The main cabinets we are going to have a dark grey 2pack (Dulux Malay Grey). The centre overhead cupboards are going to be american oak, and thinking of doing the front of the island bench in this as well? Splashback will be Pietra Grey marble and the benchtops will be EssaStone Verona Mist. Island bench is going to be 80mm thick with a waterfall on one side - while the rear/pantry benches 40mm. These are the colours together: One other thing that we had to decide on before we could lock in the kitchen design was the fridge/fridge size. We went back and forward between whether "bigger was better", quality over quantity etc and ended up buying the Liebherr CBNES 6256. We liked the french door design and the all stainless steel construction coupled with front venting so it can basically be built in which I like. The final piece of the puzzle was the light that we are going to have over the island bench. I saw this light in a winnings showroom and after a bit of help from the trusty homeone forum.. managed to track down where to buy it from! It is called the Sphere 7 by Toss B - and came with a 14 week wait for delivery from Belgium. Lucky I am in no rush! I ordered matte black outside with matte white in the centres. Hopefully everything ties in well! I'll attempt to update with pics of the pool tomorrow/wednesday! Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane. Getting started. 14Feb 16, 2015 4:51 pm Kitchen looks fantastic, loving your colours too, similar to my colour choices. What finish did you decide on for the 2pac paint, gloss or satin? I had gloss in my last house but am looking to do things a bit differently in this one! thanks heaps for the interest! Re: Custom small lot - Brisbane.
