My new shower heads are rail type and are $25 each;) That's a total bargain!!! Tell all where you're scoring those tap wear! I thought $217 a set of tap mixer was a steal. Bit too rich these bathroom accessory companies! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75739&p=1299716#p1299716 Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block - DA Approved!! 63Jul 09, 2015 7:51 pm Ok couple things. First, remember I have a custom builder and in many ways I pay a premium for this. However, there is a big advantage in that if I tell them I want to use xx product in yyy location they just say sure no problem. If I want to buy lighting myself (which I am) and they simply install it, I can do this. So with tapware in my case they are supplying everything but I have specified exactly what this is. For the shower heads I didn't see any real difference between the el cheapo Bunnings stuff and what everyone else has in their showrooms unless you get the REALLY expensive stuff. So, I told the builder to use a Bunnings distributed brand knowing I can go to Bunnings on the weekend to get parts. Next, toilet holders. Let me say Australians in general are getting seriously ripped off. I am a "new" Aussie and I hail from a location where your average TR holder cost $1.99, will let you guess where;) From prior experience and the "richness" of fixtures I experienced in my homeland I can tell you that what Aussies generally have to choose from is pretty poor in both cost and features. So my solution is to buy from another country and even with shipping costs is overall way less expensive and better looking to me. Again I can do this as my builder will take what I give him to install so to speak. In terms of bath accessories this is what I'm having installed, but of course it's to my tastes and not everyone's: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ . Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block - DA Approved!! 65Jul 11, 2015 11:02 pm Thanks TheBigHouse! Looked at bunnings, they have a really big range, never thought to check them out. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75739&p=1299716#p1299716 Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block - DA Approved!! 66Jul 12, 2015 4:45 pm Do be careful what you get from bunnings though. Cheaper is not always better IMHO. We replaced our kitchen sink tap with a bunnings branded one thinking it will do the trick till we sell. Alas it is probably worse now than the one we replaced was! Is there a specific brand of heated towel rails anyone recommends? viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75739&p=1299716#p1299716 Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block - DA Approved!! 68Jul 12, 2015 6:11 pm I'm using all Dorf stuff for the actual taps, I'm only getting the the shower heads I mentioned. Generally wouldn't like the quality of the rest of their tapware. Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block - DA Approved!! 69Jul 12, 2015 6:13 pm http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.vi ... Having already an account gives us a good discount off RRP. For towel holders I am looking at seperate rails or a ladder type looking rack but we've decided not to go heated. Can't post pictures at the moment but will next time I'm on computer. Can't post pictures at the moment but will next time I'm on computer. That's good to know, I'll ask the builder if he can get that for me too. After a few weeks of organizing the specification for this build with the builder we nearly felt that we couldn't afford building this house since everything has gone up in price. The stupid council's section 94 local council contribution fee, which cost around $1800 for the main house but a whooping $3500 for the grannyflat! We are lucky that we're only building a one bedroom granny flat, if it was 2 bedroom the cost goes up to $5300 for the grannyflat alone. These cost was not budgeted for, but had to be paid. Just to be totally sure and comfortable with the new pricing of the builder we checked out a local builder who gave us a tender with exactly the same specification as the house that we want to build. It came back a lot higher and with less control with what fixtures we want to get. The specifications for now (I have over budgeted for a few things but might need to change my mind later). 1. 2740mm high ceilings both levels 2. Hebel power floors Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 3. Commercial grade windows by GJames 4. Solid timber floors upstairs and porcelain tiles down stairs (grey concrete look) 5. A Mud room/shoe and bag room - I have pet hate of smelly shoes being displayed in the bedroom's walk in wardrobe, so a practical solution is a shoe/mudroom with an exhaust ducted to the outside. 15. For the dinning room windows which is east facing, we hope to capture the morning sun so these were the windows that inspired this area. (Not sure how much morning sun we will get cos there is a massive 2 storey house next door to us, but it was thoughtful of the architect anyway). Love the glass and wood railing to your stairs as well, big fan of the corner windows too, your extremely lucky to able to pick and choose what you want with out the massive mark ups. One thing about the day bed, make sure the cover over the foam mattress has a zipper so you can remove it and wash it. We have a window bench seat in our master bedroom and the fabric cover has no zip and the cover can't be washed . Shame to hear about all the crazy council fee's, hope the budget is coping ok. Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block - DA Approved!! 73Jul 17, 2015 2:35 pm Thanks for the advice regarding the daybed, will hope to get a cover of some sort, or I might sew one. We have fence up!!! Yay! But the stupid AGL gas company hasn't abolished our gas meter yet, they called me last Monday to tell me the lastest date of removal is Saturday which was last week. So had to push out demolition till 3rd of August! But we're glad to see a fence! You would have thought gas disconnect is a straight forward process... I have lodged for the gas meter removal/abolishment on 21.06.2015, Updated all my details by 23.06.2015 on their website, they said the earliest date of abolishment is 06.07.2015 and latest date of abolishment will be 16.07.2015. Happy with that. Got a call from a company that Jemena uses to disconnect the gas on their behalf on Monday 06.07.2015. The man said he will come out that week to do the Job, the latest Saturday 11.07.2015. He was aware that we want to proceed with a demolition, so he said you can book it in next week. Come Monday 13.07.2015 the gas meter was still there ! Called AGL, they said they will look into it, I have been expecting a callback to let me know the update, but no one called, so I called again Thursday. They said they don't do call outs, but will SMS me the update. Come Friday no SMS, so called them again, asked specifically for someone to follow it up urgently, they said they will SMS me monday. I wanted it further investigated with their team leader so asked to speak to him. Was left on hold for 20 minute. So had to hang up. No SMS Monday 20.07.2015, meter not yet abolished!!! So frustrating, call again Monday 20.07.2015... Finally spoke to their manager, he said he will call me Tuesday between 10-11am... No call from him. Have since made a formal complaint to the energy ombudsman... Made an internal complaint to AGL, BUT no formal process for that department... Was re-referred to disconnection department. Finally... They say by end of week. But still no definite date. Moral of story... Don't sign up for AGL for gas if you can! Service is POOR!!! You'll be casing your own tail!!! Fuming!!!!! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75739&p=1299716#p1299716 Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block - DA Approved!! 80Jul 21, 2015 5:03 pm Argh. That's super frustrating.
