Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block: slow and stead 642Aug 08, 2016 10:52 pm Franky40 No updates, ☹️☹️☹️☹️ the builder took 2 weeks to do the door Jabs architraves, and he's not back till Thursday with the painter. So slowed down again. He still need to organise the fence to be cleaned so that the tiler can come back to do the front porch. I think we wouldn't move in till early October. Cos there seems to be so much to still do. Got quotes for shutters, all seem the same prices... I think I'm sticking to Basswood, was considering PVC but scarred of the toxin fumes over time. Did you get wood or pvc? Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block: slow and stead 643Aug 09, 2016 8:50 am We went with Basswood shutters for all living areas and PVC for the bathrooms. The basswood shutters will warp in wet areas. We got the colours close as possible so it looks the same. We used 3lite blinds and shutters for all our shutters, blinds, fly screens/doors. They were pretty good, very happy with their shutters. We've had couple of minor issues with the blinds but they have been responsive in getting it fixed. I know all these delays must be so frustrating and exhausting. It felt like you were zooming along for sometime. Hang in there your house is going to look so unique and amazing when it's all done. viewtopic.php?t=78985 Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block: slow and stead 644Aug 09, 2016 11:40 pm B4M3T, your house is gorgeous - just by looking at the plans and the progress pictures! You have chosen well for your feature walls and love those little details in the bathroom vanities and laundry that you have chosen for your build. I envy those custom details which you cant economically do in a project build. Hang in there, you're in your last sprint. Like Frank40, I got basswood shutters in the living areas and all bedrooms. PVC in the toilets and baths. I also used double roller blinds for the butlers splashback window, staircase and void windows as they are not that accessible or would take up space when opening the shutters. For the alfresco corner stacker doors, I used verticals that closely match the roller blinds colour and same double sided texture. I got them from a friend of mine, not the lowest quote but i feel more confident giving away that much money. The window coverings so far is the most expensive we've spent as we still havent started with the landscaping. Again, I know it feels like an eternity, but that's plenty of time for you to orchestrate your moving in and the decorating! Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block: slow and stead 645Aug 10, 2016 9:49 pm Thank for the encouragement! We have some progress today but also some more delays! The painter isn't coming till next week! They've been sick! The tiler finished the front feature wall and tiled the back alfresco! It looks really good. But finally made my way to ztwo lights Leichhardt , special lights in surry hills, and about space lights in Alexandria. So many choices! I'm lost! My hubby didn't want to be involved anymore with the decision making as he's totally over it. So I just have to suprise him! The down side now is some lights wouldn't be ready for another 6-8 weeks!!! Eek!!! Some more light pics ... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ still not 100%... I like your fireplace, what did you end up getting? By your estimates you'll have a very busy summer! Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block: slow and stead 652Aug 22, 2016 9:42 pm deluded Looking really good B4MT ... hope you get to move in soon! seems like forever with the build. I like your fireplace, what did you end up getting? By your estimates you'll have a very busy summer! Hi Deluded!!! You must be in for a year already!!! Any pointers on lights??? I ended up getting the regency gf900 something... It's so long ago now I forgot the exact specs. We're still at painting stage, it's so slow, our painters are very clean and meticulous as well. So I'm hoping the slowness will ensure good quality. Most of our joinery are in, missing the stone!!! The stone guy came and installed 20mm side bench stone instead of the 40mm, so they had to ripe it all out again!!! I was so angry at them, but couldn't show it! Because they still needed to comeback to re-install it!!! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The massive damage they caused to my gyrock!!! I really only purchased LED downlights which were below $20 per light .. has a wider angle and really bright (we opted for cool white so its like a laboratory) yet to replace the battens in the bedrooms with a proper light fixture.. haven't been able to find anything that we really like. we're looking at retractable screens for the alfresco area so that we can open up the cornerless stacker doors without having to worry about fly screens. we want unobstructed views from the stackers so trying to workout the best option. we found options so may update my thread at some point Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block: slow and stead 654Aug 24, 2016 3:15 pm You could use these: https://flexiscreens.com/ Sent from an iPhone please excuse the ridiculous spell correcting software. My forum thread is at viewtopic.php?t=74944 Custom home design Sydney - narrow block: slow and steady... 655Aug 25, 2016 11:59 pm All our stone was installed yesterday! I wasn't there to double check, but made sure my kitchen man and builder was there to put pressure on the stone man to do a good job, I need to write a list of things for them to follow up on since it's not all perfect! Small gap at the base Corners not filled properly. But overall it looking very good! White shimmer by caesarstone island (60cm) and bench (40cm) Splash back is clamshells by caesarstone. I've got similar colour to the clamshells in subway tiles for the walk in pantry and also to go where the it nook, just to add some extra texture to the kitchen. I'm all lost now with what kitchen pendants to choose, I don't want white since it would blend into the walls too much. Do you think black will suit? viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75739&p=1299716#p1299716 Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block: slow and stead 657Aug 26, 2016 12:12 am First world problem here: because of my fixation of a nice bay window look and a cute IT nook, (these were my inspiration ... ) I lost sight of not arrange my ovens all at waist height! and feeling that it was a waste of going full custom built! So more bending and squatting here! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75739&p=1299716#p1299716 Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block: slow and stead 658Aug 26, 2016 12:16 am BL35ED Looking awesome! But Black pendants noway id say white or stainless or even glass I was thinking of glass too, but the ones I love cost $799!!! Each. I love these but don't like the price tag The smokey black ones are on my radar but I'm not 100% sure. What are kitchen pendants for anyway? Aesthetics? Or functional? Like makes the bench more brighter to work on? viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75739&p=1299716#p1299716 Re: Custom home design Sydney - narrow block: slow and stead 659Aug 26, 2016 12:20 am I personally didnt want any tbh...
