Love the sunshade too. We used a company just over the border in ACT called Capital Landscape Contractors. When it was done in mid November the contractor said that if we water it we will need to continue watering it and recommended we wait until there is decent rain due to the size of the area (2000m2) and limited access to water. But what we didn't know is that it could very easily blow away which is what happened to us. So if you are planning on doing something similar it would be best to water straight away to speed up the germination process. The photos below show large sections that blew away only three weeks later. http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo181/Amberley168/IMG_8049_zpsndn5mdog.jpg My build thread: Custom build on 40 acres viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75656 Re: Custom build on 40 acres - Native grass seeding 732Feb 23, 2016 6:45 pm Because we let nature take care of the germination process it is very slow, only now we are starting to see the grass growing. This section is where it gets pretty damp so it's probably how it would be all over if we watered. Since moving in over 5 months ago time has just flown and I'm not sure what we have really done since then ![]() Although we didn't want to cover our large northern windows summer has proven that just PVC windows and double glazing doesn't cut it in the really hot days, even through the sun doesn't touch the glass the heat still penetrates. So we installed honeycomb blinds which we put down during the day when we are at work and it really makes a difference. It is now quite cool inside and are very confident that we will not need to install air-conditioning at all. http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo181/Amberley168/IMG_8222_zps1gkag8ka.jpg In other news we recently had the builder come to look at the 3 month defects (the Christmas period delayed it a little), not too much to be done, the biggest things were some repairs to the external exsulite cladding, adjustments to some windows including the motorised ones and re-laying of some of the vinyl plank floors where they were not installed correctly. We have started planting some garden beds around, 100% natives as nothing else grows around here, the biggest problem is keeping the Kangaroos out ![]() My build thread: Custom build on 40 acres viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75656 Re: Custom build on 40 acres - Well overdue update 734Feb 26, 2016 1:18 am Hey there MnT! Not even signed a contract and having second thoughts about the whole idea. Cheers Re: Custom build on 40 acres - Well overdue update 737Feb 29, 2016 10:33 pm I was wondering how your grass was going. I'm sure it will take off during winter. Blinds look good and sounds like they are effective! Re: Custom build on 40 acres - Well overdue update 738Mar 08, 2016 3:46 pm You can definitely see plenty of green coming through there so come on rain - I bet it will really take off. We also get a lot of wind! Your outlook is gorgeous. I was wondering whether you had put in air con. That is fabulous that you don't need it! The blind looks really nice also. Is it a solid block out? Lovely to see your updates. Thanks to the blinds I don't think we will need air-conditioning at all now. We got single cell solid blockout honeycomb blinds, apparently they have the best thermal rating. The inside of the cells are silver (something to do with reflecting the heat) but you can't see it as they fit tight in the reveal. Here is a pic Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The best thing about these blinds is when they are up you hardly notice they are there as they fold up so small. http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo181/Amberley168/631EC203-1FF0-4772-BD8F-421ABF693102_zpsjg28wng2.jpg My build thread: Custom build on 40 acres viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75656 Re: Custom build on 40 acres - Well overdue update 740Mar 10, 2016 1:50 pm Hi MnT, Just wondering where you got your blinds please?
