Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 20, 2006 6:24 pm We were just wondering, from people who have completed building and handed over, how clean should the site and house be?
Should all the windows be cleaned and the tracks of the sliding doors and windows? Should they clean down teh gutters etc. Our house just looks quite dirty on the outside and so far the cleaning has been average. There is dirt in all the window tracks and al our windows etc are really dirty. Also there is still a fair bit of rubbish around the place. We should be handing over in a bout a week or two I think. Thanks. Re: Handover at completion question 2Oct 22, 2006 5:29 pm Unfortunately… I see this all the time! I have recently finished a $2 million dollar home.
My clients were more than unhappy about the way their rather expensive investment was being used as a tip ground from the tradies doing the work! On completion of their home it was tidied up. BUT don’t expect your home to look as pristine clean as the show homes look… it won’t happen! I would get in contact with the building company doing the job and ask them will they be doing the cleaning. They will clean up slightly but never to our expectations. Be prepared for some muscle work before you move in!! Good luck, and get the Windex and mop ready. We are also in about a week to handover so in a same boat! We also had a huge pile of rubbish in front and all around the house throughout the costruction period and I have enquiried about the cleaning up with the builder more than one occasion. They promised that it will be all cleaned up before the handover. Actually for the last week a cleaner has been working on the site - removing all the rubbish from the site (but no soil which is apparently our resposibility), cleaned up inside the house, and he is still working on cleaning up the windows. But we have not checked the window tracks yet. It looks pretty good now to our relief. If our house is not cleaned up yet, I would contact the builder to ask when and what will be cleaned up before the handover. Good luck! Re: Handover at completion question 4Oct 24, 2006 6:44 pm We had a second pre-handover meeting today and were rushed around by the Manager.
I asked about the cleaning and he said they definately don't clean the gutters etc, but will give the windows and tracks a going over (only because we asked though). I realise that we will have to do another full clean before moving in, but the site is now a bit cleaner and they have put the other cleaning items on our sign off list. Fingers crossed, next Thursday should be the day! Re: Handover at completion question 5Oct 25, 2006 11:57 am Enjoy your new home!
