Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 21, 2015 11:46 pm So i have spent just about most of the last two days reading heaps of threads. I have loved looking at the photos getting ideas and reading about peoples builds but i must admit im now a little worried especially about the build time and the problems some have had. How some of you have stayed sane is beyond me.
We have just done our tile and laminate selection and i must admit looking at some of the builds on here i am very plain and boring (not good at choosing colours) white, white and white with a little grey here and there lol Is it right that HGWA dry wall Roll on prestart Re: Building with HGWA 2Jan 22, 2015 12:40 am Everyone build is different . Iv been on here long enough to see that . Lol. I didn't build with hgwa a but just take note on what you read on here but remember your build could be different other wise you will go in sane . And there is a lot of white on white houses on here and they look great . White will never date . There is also a few houses on here with dry wall . I still don't know why they do it .good luck and hope to see your plan up soon Re: Building with HGWA 3Jan 22, 2015 9:26 am Thanks melsie68, I'm finding this site great for information and every one is so nice. I did try to mix it up a bit by putting some contrasting cupboards in the kitchen but as soon as i got home i rang and changed them back to white lol. I had another look and found a lot of white kitchens etc and they do look amazing so i will be sticking with white and maybe add some bright accessories. I will post some pictures as soon as i work out how to lol Re: Building with HGWA 4Jan 22, 2015 7:51 pm Re: Building with HGWA 5Jan 22, 2015 8:26 pm I'm responding on my daughter s iPod lol but plans look good . Wow you did we'll with the plan 4 bathrooms . The kitchen looks like a good size too . I have a very bold overheads in my kitchen Stressed the whole build . Lol Re: Building with HGWA 6Jan 22, 2015 9:01 pm Thanks Melsie68. yes 4 bathrooms what was i thinking lol at least i do not have to clean them all. I do not know how you all cope i haven't even done prestart yet and im stressed : ) Re: Building with HGWA 7Jan 22, 2015 9:53 pm I'm still stressing lol . My 6 month more like 8month check is next month . I'm shxting my pants . Lol . I stress over little things . But my partner sees something and never second guesses . Which then makes me do all the thinking lol Back on my iPad . Your plan seems spot on . Tips I would give you if you are tall you might won't to raise bench heights in kitchen .i can't remember how much it was but it wasn't that much . I didn't do my bathrooms but they also could of been a bit higher Have your manhole in carport (I couldn't see it in your plan ) Maybe open garage door the other way . Re: Building with HGWA 8Jan 22, 2015 10:26 pm Jeez are they even slow at doing your 6 month check Great idea on the garage door i would have never thought of that. No worries on raising the height of the bench tops in the kitchen as im only short, my son likes to use my head as a arm rest when he stands at the side of me and i have to tell him to kneel down when i want to tell him off so then we start laughing, unfortunately my daughter has taken after me and as we are the only ones that use the kitchen or should i say let in the kitchen lol we are good. Good point about the man hole, i can not find it either, i will add it to the list. Thanks for the great advise. It doesn't matter how much you think you have scrutinized the plans and think you have cracked it its amazing what a pair of fresh eyes can see. : ) Re: Building with HGWA 9Jan 22, 2015 11:20 pm Hey Sharry they only dry wall in the South West. I guess looking at most builders a lot of them do take quite a long time not just HGWA, we have been at it since October 2013 and should have keys at the end of next month the build time itself has only taken around 6-7 months yes it is a long stressful process but mostly a fun one for most people. Good luck with your build look forward to following along! Re: Building with HGWA 10Jan 22, 2015 11:25 pm It was due in dec but I have 6 kids and school holidays started so left it till they go back to school . Lol about your kids . I'm starting to get shorter. I'm around170cm and my 14 and 12 year old are getting close . Oh you will need to keep that wine store by the time your finished lol Re: Building with HGWA 11Jan 22, 2015 11:33 pm Thank you for that belzey
Yes as i have been reading other post im realising its not Just HGWA that are slow i suppose it doesn't matter how fast they build we always want it built yesterday lol Im really looking forward to our build apart from a couple of hiccups its been good with HGWA our sales rep Lee was fab and Cara was so helpful with the tile selection. I have just been looking through your photos and your home is looking fab you must be getting excited with key handover so close. Re: Building with HGWA 12Jan 22, 2015 11:43 pm Hahaha melsie68 yes i did consider that about the wine store. when Lee put wine store on the plans i looked at my hubby and said when people see this they will think we ha alcoholics lol. Re: Building with HGWA 13Jan 23, 2015 10:49 am Love your plan Sharry, you've put some good thought into it. We toyed up with adding accommodation for my MIL (didn't need it in the end) so I really like to see how others have done it. Look forward to seeing how your build goes and your colour choices. Have fun! Re: Building with HGWA 14Jan 23, 2015 12:51 pm Hi Guys i thought i would post some of the colours im using please feel free to comment good or bad. En suite 1, bathroom and laundry: Bench tops DellaVita stone in stone grey Cupboards in formica Crystal White Gloss white wall tiles. 300 x 450 Floor tiles in Charcoal, 300 x 300 Skirting tiles in Charcoal, 300 x 300 En suite 2 and 3: Bench tops DellaVita stone in Polar Cupboards in formica Crystal White Gloss white wall tiles 300 x 450 Floor tiles in Charcoal 300 x 300 Skirting tiles in Charcoal 300 x 300 Kitchen: Bench tops DellaVita stone in Polar Cupboards in Laminex natural finish White, not as white as the others. Thought that with the amount of light and cupboards i would go with a warmer white. Wall tiles (there is not a lot ) Gloss white. I do like my white lol. I have decided not to cut the tiles down over the bench tops so that means the mirrors will be a little higher and also not to reduce the skirting tile so it will be a little higher up against the shower hob as im trying to avoid cuts on tiles. Hoping this will not look horrible Garage and window frames im really stuck on as i would have liked a white garage door and white window frames but the closest to white in the garage door is surf mist. So im in a dilemma. if i get surf mist garage door should i do the window frames in surfmist or should i go with Shale grey garage and white window frames. then what colour do i do the down pipes etc aaaahhhhh . Im trying to keep it all light colours as we have decided not to have render at the front for upkeep reasons as im not getting any younger lol. Does any one have surfmist if so is it a cream or grey colour as i like greys. Any ideas are greatly appreciated Re: Building with HGWA 15Jan 23, 2015 1:19 pm I'm also a fan of white and light neutrals. Surfmist is almost white. We have it for our roof and garage doors. Window frames and architraves are white and the house itself is a darker colour for contrast. Re: Building with HGWA 16Jan 23, 2015 10:39 pm Thanks Jays i think i will most probably be going with the surfmist as i would like to keep in light Been looking at heaps of photos and im loving the hob less shower and was wondering if any one could remember how much the upgrade is. Thanks. Re: Building with HGWA 17Jan 23, 2015 11:06 pm Hi Sharry, We have recently signed our papers with hgwa and included hobless showers in the planning stage. We paid $728 for the ensuite and from what we were told almost all that cost was for the reflux valve. Cos we did the same for the main bathroom and only cost $18 as only one reflux valve is needed apparently. Hope that helps! Ps. On another note...yay my first post!! I've been lurking for so long getting so much good info I thought time to pay it forward hehe Re: Building with HGWA 20Jan 24, 2015 12:56 am Hey Sharry! Just checked out your plan...looks fantastic! And you can't beat your neutral colours - gives you heaps of scope for decorating, and they always look great! My SS was talking about hobless showers the other day, and was saying they have had problems with them. Said you need to ensure the tiling is spot on so the water drains the right way. Just thought I would mention it so you can keep an eye on it if you decide to have them. Good luck with your build. I look forward to following.
