Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 21, 2015 11:14 pm Hi all, just wondering what you all have been quoted for extra tiling in your builds. Our builder, National Homes, is quoting $160/m2 for any extra 200x200 tiles in the bathrooms. Does this seem right? It does feel a little steep to me. And does anyone suggest getting the extra tiling done after handover? Thanks Re: Tiling Costs? 3Jan 22, 2015 6:28 am Seems high. We had the wet areas/toilets tiled to ceiling. Works very well and looks great. Re: Tiling Costs? 4Jan 22, 2015 6:33 am The cost probably varies state to state, but in NSW tilers are anywhere from $45 to $110 per hour. But if it's through your builder they always charge a ridiculous mark up. Building the Waterside34 (39 after upgrades) Re: Tiling Costs? 5Jan 22, 2015 8:38 pm Crazyk Seems way too expensive. Not sure if he is including any extra waterproofing. General rate for tiling should be around the $40-70/m2 mark including materials excl tile. Not sure what sort of tradesman you would get for $40m2 these days. Re: Tiling Costs? 8Jan 23, 2015 12:46 am Thx for the replies everyone. Would anyone recommend getting the builder to just supply the standard tile coverage, and then add the rest yourself later? Any downside to this? Re: Tiling Costs? 9Jan 23, 2015 12:54 am We did full height tiling to all wet areas . God knows how much we paid through builder .if it was that price lucky I don't know lol.but if you can afford it I highly recommend it . I know a few people that wet full height after had over with no problems. Re: Tiling Costs? 10Jan 23, 2015 2:12 am Does $160 cover the actual tiles? Either way, I'd be safe to say the builder has added a nice margin. From our research, the going rate in Brisbane for tiling ceramics is about $50-60 per sqm. Porcelain rectified tiles were between $60-80. Some used different adhesive methods too. Can you get your own tiler in during the build? Home is where the lot is Construction commenced 3rd November 2014 Re: Tiling Costs? 11Jan 23, 2015 11:11 am $160 definitely sounds overpriced. Just remember that they are quoting for Labour + Materials. We decided to do our own flooring (Except wet areas) after hand over. Saved us a lot of $$$. However in the bathrooms we had no choice but to go with the build and spend then extra money. Re: Tiling Costs? 12Jan 23, 2015 2:46 pm Hi Tim! i dont know the exact price per metre, but in our build we included: - full height tiled bathroom on all walls - full height tiled ensuite on all walls - floor and full height of one wall in powder room - left laundry tiling height standard as well as butlers pantry splashback altogether came to $2350.00, this is with cat 1 tiles though hope this helps Built the Bermuda with Porter Davis Re: Tiling Costs? 14Jan 24, 2015 6:33 am If you want to add to the tiling after handover try and get the batch number from the tile boxes that get delivered or speak to the tile company and advise them of what you plan to do and that you need extra boxes of the same batch Looking to tile the facade pillars rather than rendering. Builder is quoting 2500$ laying cost for upto 10msq. The 2 pillars come to be 16msq. So laying costs are 5000$… 0 7546 Hi, I'm clearing the tiles from our horrid 50 year old bathroom and preparing to lay new ones. Bugger of a job getting the old… 0 8088 4 14463 |
