Browse Forums Building A New House Re: New DAH home - any suggestions with the plans 2Jan 16, 2015 9:58 am I don't know how far into the piece you are - but your home faces the wrong way from solar passive point of view. I doubt you could flip it as the garage needs to be on north to get away from the corner I suppose. Things I would consider - shift door to master to other side of anteroom so you can put a little bench in here or something. Reconfigure Bed 3, 4 and WC so WC gets a window and Bed 3 robe isn't jutting into the room. Have a look at your roof more closely to remove spandrel at Bed 4/Alfresco junction. Remove slider in laundry so you can run bench over w/machine. Get rid of walk in linen and shift upwards with sliding doors on it. Same amount of shelf space, but take up half the room. Could extend Bed 2 WIR or preferably shift it up and give more to pantry. Small footprint in Eliza Ponds, Spearwood WA Re: New DAH home - any suggestions with the plans 3Jan 16, 2015 2:29 pm You could just flip the back half of your plan.. so the garage, store and home theatre stay where they are and the beds and kitchen/lving area swop sides. I would have a full length bench in the laundry. I would add a bulkhead over the kitchen or two recessed ceiling areas over the living and dining to break up that space a bit and define the areas more. Something like this.... http://www.sertplast.com/wp-content/upl ... niture.jpg My build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=68002 Re: New DAH home - any suggestions with the plans 4Jan 16, 2015 3:50 pm My suggestions would be to also flip the rear of your house so living areas are on the north side, and you take advantage of solar passive living, and then move it towards your southern boundary. Any bathroom/laundry windows along this street can be hidden through effective screening/landscaping or even making them look like normal bedroom windows by changing them from the standard bathroom type window, and having clear glazing (given you can have blinds on inside to provide privacy). I would also move your store room wall that shares with entrance, back (create a recess for something like a hall table) to provide a drop zone and create the illusion of a wider entrance. Consider making your bed 3 Wardrobe double the size with a sliding door. Push your corner Alfresco pillar out so its right on the corner thereby reducing need for the spandrel type set up with the eaves in the current left hand corner of the Alfresco. Maybe centre the window in your store room as its off to one side. And maybe if you don't need 4 bedrooms consider possibility of rejigging beds 3 and 4 and the WC to create a one larger third bedroom so that your two spare rooms are a big bigger than they currently are? Of course, that only doable if you don't need four bedrooms... Maybe consider pushing the wall out between dining and living area windows to create another recess for feature (future gas fire type installation etc?)
