We originally had cavity sliders in our sunken theatre room, our construction manager told us they don't look as nice in homes so we said we would change to sliding doors. We then were told what we could choose from. Well today the theatre room sliding doors have been installed and this is the end result - Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ There is a huge gap at the bottom of the door, I personally think this was a draftsman issue and the doors should have been made bigger to fit. I don't understand the point of having doors if we are having this gap that my child could fall through. They also feel flimsy to open because they are not flush with the floor like the rest of the internal doors in the house. Does anyone think we have a leg to stand on with this issue? Building our first home - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75306 Re: Cara and Matt's First Build - Baldivis 42Mar 06, 2015 10:23 pm How big is the gap cara? Once flooring is done you will be amazed at how the gaps become little. Wood also needs a little gapping for expansion Re: Cara and Matt's First Build - Baldivis 43Mar 06, 2015 10:43 pm We are doing 600x600 porcelain tiles so we will have a door trim and then carpet in the theatre. I didn't measure but just looking at a ruler then I would say it's 80-100 mm from memory. I have attached a closer picture but it doesn't seem as open in the picture. Porcelain tiles are not that thick (we have some where we are now) and I guess it depends on what carpet and underlay you are getting? I think getting samples would be worth while that might give you a better idea of how large the gap is once there is something underneath. Maybe measure the space between the sliding doors and the other doors throughout the home, really they should all be roughly the same measurement, otherwise I would say it is a mistake. Re: Cara and Matt's First Build - Baldivis 45Mar 09, 2015 3:09 pm Good news... Met the supervisor down at the house this morning, they knew I was going there for the council to inspect where the pool goes so he said he would meet me down there. They recieved the email this morning and were already onto it when we meet at 10am. They have decided to go with an arcotrave (spelling?) around the frame and the bottom of the the frame that will reduce the gap of the doors, my partner is up north but I showed him pictures of what they will do and he seems happy. On a good note, we have PCI aimed for Thursday the 19th of March Hopefully because we have addressed everything now we only have a small list of things to do! Wow not too much longer to go... congrats on the PCI date! Re: Cara and Matt's First Build - Baldivis 47Mar 17, 2015 12:41 am Hi Caraf88, Really nice plan and selections in house. I am thinking to signup with impressions and I am building at Calleya. They have come up with cool design and nice inclusions. How is your overall experience so far with impressions? Thanks Our build - Moved In! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=79629 Re: Cara and Matt's First Build - Baldivis 48Mar 17, 2015 11:21 am Ro_14 Hi Caraf88, Really nice plan and selections in house. I am thinking to signup with impressions and I am building at Calleya. They have come up with cool design and nice inclusions. How is your overall experience so far with impressions? Thanks Hello, We are building the Somerton but we did make quite a few changes. A lot of the inclusions you see were upgrades so did cost us, but compared to our friends who built with ideal homes and spent the same money have far less. Impressions have been great, it has taken a little longer than we would of liked but we are really happy with the finished product so far. I think it's important to remember all builders use the same trades, it's how a builder handles a situation when something is not acceptable. We are coming up to PCI this Thursday, we have hired a building inspector for peace of mind but we also are pretty certain we have addressed most issues previously so we won't have much to pick at PCI. Good luck Building our first home - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75306 Re: Cara and Matt's First Build - Baldivis 49Mar 17, 2015 12:16 pm Just caught up and yay for PCI date!! PCI is Thursday morning at 9am! We shouldn't have too much of a list because we have picked up on things during the build. We decided to get a building inspector anyway just for peace of mind as he will be able to check the roof and make sure installation is fitted correctly and everything else is to building standard. $500 but I think it will be $500 well spent. I'm surprised they advised against cavity sliders as I think they would have looked great... Personal taste though I suppose. Place is looking fantastic and exciting news about PCI. Looking forward to seeing photos of the whole home completed and clean...haha good luck with that too... Re: Cara and Matt's First Build - Baldivis 54Mar 17, 2015 5:09 pm Goodluck with PCI! With your sliding doors, did you pick the handles for it or are they just standard? I just realised looking at yours we were never asked what handles we wanted for ours Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: Cara and Matt's First Build - Baldivis 55Mar 17, 2015 7:01 pm Good luck with the PCI on Thursday:) Re: Cara and Matt's First Build - Baldivis 56Mar 17, 2015 9:54 pm d3us_85 Glad to hear they have come up with a solution to the gap as it certainly wasn't acceptable. I'm surprised they advised against cavity sliders as I think they would have looked great... Personal taste though I suppose They advised us against it because all they are is a plain door. They don't come in a pattern of any sort. Plus the wall isn't brick (it's chipboard) so when it's your theatre, you want a brick wall for sound not going into another room. We have the cavity slider in the scullery and it is plain so we are kind of glad we didn't do it as we have nicer doors everywhere else. We aren't actually happy with the resolution they have come up with for the theatre, my partner isn't here to see it but the supervisor said he will discuss it with my partner at PCI on Thursday. Even the building inspector will have a field day with it, so see what comes of it I guess. archetto With your sliding doors, did you pick the handles for it or are they just standard? I just realised looking at yours we were never asked what handles we wanted for ours No we didn't get to pick them on the sliders, but I don't think there is much option as compared to normal doors, but it's something you can always change later.
