Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building with Redink Homes 202Aug 02, 2015 9:40 pm I really like the entry with the recessed ceiling and the windows - it'll be very imposing with the portico's 31c ceiling too! And I see you've made the splashback window much longer in the kitchen - it'll look amazing! Looking forward to seeing it in real life (uhm ok .... in pictures ) Re: Building with Redink Homes 203Sep 08, 2015 11:41 am Hi guys Haven't been on in a while. The brickies started two weeks ago and are pretty much finished. The inside is completely done, we just have the portico outstanding. I am hoping that will be done in the next day or two and we should get our site cleaned and roof timbers delivered. it feels wonderful walking through the house and seeing the rooms and how the whole thing flows. It will be even better once the roof is on. Cannot wait!! Re: Building with Redink Homes 205Sep 08, 2015 11:46 am Great news!! I loved the brickwork stage. And I see you've made the splashback window much longer in the kitchen - it'll look amazing! Looking forward to seeing it in real life (uhm ok .... in pictures ) Thank you MalSannie, I hoping the entry will have some wow. I am wanting to put wooden shutters on those windows. I am really hoping they won't be too expensive as I might get a lovely no from hubby in that case. That was the idea with the kitchen. I wanted to have all window, so that had to go back to the drawing board on a few occasions. Initally we were going to put a fixed glass panel all along, but hubby thought it would be a better idea to have an awning in the middle allowing us to open it while cooking, which I agree with, after careful consideration . I am all aesthetics and he is all practicality, so hopefully a mix will give us the best of both worlds. I drove past this morning (before work even though its not on the way ) and saw they are doing a site clean. The portico still hasn't been bricked up, but I am hoping that will come sometime today. Crossing my fingers for roof carpenter next week! Re: Building with Redink Homes 213Sep 11, 2015 3:52 am I'll keep fingers crossed for you too! I'd love to have shutters but they're so expensive! I think I'll just go with normal white venetians all over - it will still look fresh I hope and will do the job. For the sliders it'll be verticals - to keep the sun out they're probably best apart from curtains? I just know anything else like rollers would irritate the bejezus out of my Dad when he wants to get to his alfresco Re: Building with Redink Homes 214Sep 11, 2015 1:57 pm MalSannie I'll keep fingers crossed for you too! We had pelmets in our previous house over the sliding door to the alfreco, they used to slide all the way to either side or at night we had them pulled all the way across. They were really easy to operate. I only have this photo of our previous living area so hope that gives you an idea of what I mean Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Building with Redink Homes 215Sep 13, 2015 12:03 am What a lovely room that is - do you mean panel blinds? I've been eyeing them too but didn't realise until I asked the blind people that they can't tilt like the verticals can. They look stunning though! Thanks MalSannie, I miss our place, such a shame we were so far from everything, hence sold it. Yeah that's what I meant, panel blinds. They can't tilt, but our one had 6 panels so you could have it opened all the way, or just half way. I loved them, and they really did look lovely. Re: Building with Redink Homes 217Sep 14, 2015 12:03 am Right, now I'm confused again - I think I'll do all the windows with venetians apart from the sliding doors, we have relatively lots of privacy at the back being on different levels to the neighbours. So will go and see the panels and verticals in person before I commit to those for the sliding doors. That is if I can still afford anything at that time - eeeeek! This building thing is expensive. I am sure when you have a look, they will be able to give you some good advice as to what would suit best. Also seeing it in person is always good, before making the final decision. My issue with venetians (aluminium) is they bend so easily, that I never was too fond of having them in the living area. I have little kids though and boys can be pretty destructive Re: Building with Redink Homes 220Sep 14, 2015 10:54 am pidge.72 Sorry to butt in, but what's cheaper, venetians or those panel blinds ? From what I remember from our previous house, panels were more. I think the fabric we chose was a little different than standard, it had a texture to it. Also the sliding mechanism costs more than the usual venetian blinds. That's all from memory, so I could be wrong. Ask for references and speak to them.
