Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 14, 2015 8:27 am I'll be doing a knockdown-rebuild in the south-eastern suburbs and I'm very close to signing on the dotted line with Fairhaven once I'm happy with the floor plan, etc. I was hoping to start a general discussion thread for past, present and future Fairhaven customers... so would anyone like to share their stories? I have many questions. ![]() Look forward to some replies! Re: Who's building with Fairhaven Homes in Melbourne? 2Jan 15, 2015 6:01 pm So apparently I'm the only one... Re: Who's building with Fairhaven Homes in Melbourne? 3Jan 17, 2015 5:09 pm and what is it with demo companies? I've been in contact with a handful, and of the ones who actually answered their phones, only one agreed to meet with me in person (but still hasn't sent me their quote) and the others did "drive bys" *while I was at home* but did not notify me as to their presence when checking out the job. needless to say, the latter won't be getting a cent of my money. so I'd appreciate some recommendations of responsive and communicative demo mobs in melbourne as well please... Re: Who's building with Fairhaven Homes in Melbourne? 4Jan 18, 2015 7:06 am We had about 4 quotes done and all quotes came in at exactly the same price. We have not had ours done yet so I can't say who's good or bad, we felt most confident with Darren from Roach demolition and Andre from on line demolition. We are waiting for a planning permit from council before we can go ahead. Re: Who's building with Fairhaven Homes in Melbourne? 5Jan 18, 2015 11:31 am thanks for the recommendations, jessicana10. I will get in touch with both of them when the time is right - only just about to get a quote to put power underground so it's a bit early. did you submit your own demo permit application or is your builder or someone else doing it on your behalf? Re: Who's building with Fairhaven Homes in Melbourne? 6Jan 18, 2015 12:59 pm for us we have to wait for the planning permit to be approved, then the demo guys will help us do the demo permit then the builder will do the build permit for us. Re: Who's building with Fairhaven Homes in Melbourne? 7Jan 18, 2015 1:12 pm argh. so complicated with all the red tape. good luck with it all. ![]() Re: Who's building with Fairhaven Homes in Melbourne? 8Jul 11, 2015 10:21 am Good Morning Im building a new home been to a few builders , SJD, HBC , S1m0nd5 , just want to know how does Fairhaven stack up,, Any input would be really appreciated Regards, Re: Who's building with Fairhaven Homes in Melbourne? 9Aug 05, 2015 11:13 am Hi there I have just joined Homeone to provide information on our build with Fairhaven Homes. We are building in Torquay VIC. We have referred to these forums many a time to gain reviews & feedback on builder choices so thought it was time to "give back!!". We have had a frustrating time selecting builders, we first signed with Sherridon Homes, paid the $1000 deposit and found them to be dishonest in that they tried to get us to put down more money before even conducting a soil test etc. Luckily we did get our $1000 back but we weren't so lucky after signing with Simonds...yes we went through the whole build process, colour selection & all with Simonds. We were extremely thorough with our Sales Assistant to ensure everything was included in our quote & we made very minimal upgrades to fit our budget...still Simonds found a way to increase our quote by $10,000 between colour selections & contract by increasing "site costs" & snuck up the price throughout our contract. Simonds puts pressure on the buyer by speeding things through & push to have contracts signed in order to work to their speedy start date & build time...I can understand how some people would just pay the $10,000 to keep things moving but for us...we just didn't have that money & it was just out of line when we had been so so thorough in our budgeting. This led us to Fairhaven Homes. The reviews on "Product Review" were really good. We are signing our contract today & whilst the administration side of things has been slow in comparison to that of Simonds, the process has been really smooth, they have been nothing but honest & upfront about costs. Their selections centre was in Berwick but I believe they now have their new selections centre in Campbellfield open. We found the selections process better than Simonds & Fairhaven had a much better standard range, the only upgrade we made was to tiles on our facade & our bricks. I will be starting a new post shortly to outline & "blog" our experience with Fairhaven but so far so good ![]() Re: Who's building with Fairhaven Homes in Melbourne? 10Aug 10, 2015 9:37 am Cant wait to follow your build, what house are you building? Re: Who's building with Fairhaven Homes in Melbourne? 11Aug 10, 2015 8:15 pm We are building a customised version of the Kiama 226 on a corner block. I will post pictures & plans once things move ahead ![]() Re: Who's building with Fairhaven Homes in Melbourne? 13Oct 12, 2015 7:31 pm We are currently looking at building with Fairhaven Homes and would be curious to know other peoples experience with them. We are currently building with Fairhaven in Torquay & are so pleased with the progress of our build. Whilst this company is not administratively as fast as the likes of Simonds etc their communication, honesty and workmanship is far superior. Our home is almost at lock up and so far things have been great. Re: Who's building with Fairhaven Homes in Melbourne? 15Nov 23, 2015 8:49 am We are building a newport in Doreen Vic. We are happy with the design, colour selection process, upgrades and the price. But the process is really slow. We paid the initial deposit in early July and did everything we can from our end to speed up the process. Construction did not started until late October and the slab is not poured yet. I was told they were not able to find a concreter on time. Re: Who's building with Fairhaven Homes in Melbourne? 16Dec 02, 2015 2:44 pm Was just wondering if you had any more updates on Farihaven as a builder. We are about to put a deposit down on the Newport 361 and are keen to hear some feedback after building our first home with Simonds and after having some issues you just wouldn't believe are hoping Fairhaven are better. Re: Who's building with Fairhaven Homes in Melbourne? 17Dec 02, 2015 5:38 pm We will be building the Queenscliff 416 with Fairhaven next year and most of the reviews that we have found on Fairhaven appear to be pretty good and they have been pretty upfront and open about everything with us to date.
