Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 13, 2015 11:05 am Has anyone in WA installed smoke alarms additional to that required by law in a single dwelling house? Law requires smoke alarms to be installed on or near the ceiling in: [a] Any storey containing bedrooms i. Between the bedrooms and the remainder of the dwelling, and ii. Where bedrooms are served by a hallway, in THAT hallway; and [b] Any other storey not containing bedrooms, in the area of the stairway (exit path) between each level I’m thinking it might be worthwhile after watching a programme late last year showing children sleeping right through the alarms for upward of 8 minutes! However, other friends say they wouldn’t do it as the LED light lights up the room. I don’t notice any bright light off the ones we have in our current house in the passage ways (which are lit and compliant). I’m interested to hear your thoughts. Re: How many smoke alarms did you install 2Jan 13, 2015 11:12 am Do you mean putting a smoke alarm in each bedroom? I'm a property manager and one of my tenants has put smoke alarms into each of their childrens bedrooms, I didn't notice any bright light coming off them, they would just be long life battery ones not hard wired. The standard kitchen and hallway, plus one in my HT room, and another in Mum's bedroom. If they led's were too bright, I'm sure a bit of insulation tape over the led's would solve that issue easily (even if not legal ?) As they are hard wired, if one goes off, they all go off. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending.
