Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our new home- Garage Door 281Oct 25, 2017 5:54 pm Went for a drive today the garage door was getting installed. Painter will be finished by Tuesday next week, looking heaps better then a week ago. Tiler has been changed to a another tiler who isn't getting married next weekend, so they are booked to start next week. Hopefully going to get the screed done this week, whatever that is. Tiler was in yesterday and delivered our tiles.. we had heard he was going to do the screed? But hasn't done that yet. One of our splash back tiles was out on top of the pile so we took that into the kitchen to have a look at it against the bench top and cupboards- When it was right up against the bench top it made the cupboards look yellow and the tile really white in comparison, when you put it right underneath the cupboards it looked fine didn't look yellow or anything which is good. I think we have grey grout but I cannot be certain- Im fairly sure it is cos I didn't want white grout again. The floor tiles are porcelain, think they will look ok, they weren't out so didn't open them up and test them out. Not sure how they are going to go against the bench top- cos we just used the floor tile for the bathroom splash back. Builder will be in Monday or Tuesday to finish the front porch hardiplanks, again had heard he would be in Friday or today to complete. Re: Our new home 283Oct 28, 2017 9:23 pm Really excited to see your tiles! I can't believe you're at this point already! Another week or two and you'll overtake me! https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?share_ ... are_type=t Re: Our new home- Help with decision!!! 284Oct 29, 2017 6:23 pm Help!! We have the tiler coming this week- tiles are already there (plus the receipt of what was ordered was there too...). What was on the order was the two different lots of tiles, the grey grout for the grey tiles and stuff that goes behind the tile (the glue??) and possibly something else I didn't take a photo of it and my brain is like a sieve, What I noticed there were a few bags of the glue stuff one bag of the grout colour and the tiles... What we chose in colour selection was the kitchen splash back tiles was supposed to have white grout. Wouldn't they need a specifically white coloured grout bag there too? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Our kitchen splash back is white 300x600mm tile with a grey marble through it there isn't too much marbling through it (I wonder if I wish there was a little more!) we have chosen a white grout with it but I don't like the white grout (for reasons of it changing colour and getting dirty/darker over time) and there isn't any white grout at the house. My question is do I mention not seeing the white grout and just get the white grout, or do I wait and see if they put the darker grey grout hope that I like it or get it changed if I don't, or do I mention getting a lighter grey colour? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The grout we have chosen is 287- Charred Ash and looks good with the Charcoal Pewter tile we have for the floors and the white will be whiter than the Alabaster. I wonder about that lighter 273- Magellan grey though Of the three choices what would you do? Have a colour that blends in, have a colour that stands out, or have a colour that stands out but not as bold? What would be the best way to bring out more of the grey marble? Please help me make a decision!!! I really don't like the white grout but if we did that would a sealer help it stay white? Re: Our new home 285Oct 29, 2017 7:53 pm We have white splashback tiles in our current home we built and at prestart I picked white grout and they installed it with grey grout. I absolutely hate it and still wish I’d made them redo it. The grey gets dirty too especially with spaghetti sauce but I can’t use bleachy things to clean it as it discolours the grout so it’s a bit catch 22. I’d rather have it white and put more effort into cleaning it. BUT if you’re a fan of the white tiles/grey grout look then definitely speak up now and change it. 7 Year’s later and it still bugs me... haha Re: Our new home 286Oct 29, 2017 8:00 pm I think your probably right it will bug me being the real dark grey, and I didn't think about the bleach type products- lightening them or going patchy! I figured our last 'white' grout had gone yellowish/brown over time so grey should be better. If they do it wrong and I don't like it I will certainly tell them to fix it.. I feel though I should have looked at the middle lighter grey colour thou hahaa Thanks for your feedback Jamby Re: Our new home 289Oct 30, 2017 7:33 pm Hopefully the grout is nice and thin I think i'll just leave it as the white... it won't look as much like tiles then. Painter is still going. He's going to be finished inside tomorrow, he was doing the doors when I went in today. Will do the skirting boards and finish the doors tomorrow. Then outside on Wednesday No further action, no tiler, no building finishing the porch See the doors- nice and shiny. Painter should be finished up inside this afternoon, he was looking pretty well done when I went past the second time today. Just finishing the front door (internal) and I noticed he had to do a bit of patching in the laundry. Its looking fantastic. There was a bit of digging going on outside at lunchtime in our front yard and across the road, apparently something to do with the gas. Hubby said its the gas regulator?? Anyway its something connected to our house. The cable guy (one we hired) had been to install the antennae, was going to do more but the painter hadn't finished yet. Called back around after work with the kids and we have down pipes! Also we had a delivery of shelving two of which were fitted into the laundry and bedroom 4. The rest will also be installed once painter is finished inside. Busy day Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Not quite complete- Bedroom 4 wir Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Laundry- I forgot we only had one wall of shelves in the linen cupboard. Its disappointing as its a lot of shelving we could have there although there will be plenty of room for brooms and the vacuum cleaner. Re: Our new home 291Nov 02, 2017 7:21 pm Front porch was done today, well at least ready to be painted. That should happen tomorrow. The cabinet makers were back and have finished the shelving although did that after i'd left, so I didn't get to see. They had started the pantry and a second bedroom when I got there. Hubby went around 4pm and seen it, though couldn't quite see the WIR because the tiler had been and acid washed the area. Didn't see him till lunchtime today though (so disappointing, I'm wanting it done!! I want to move in before Xmas!). Painter had done the eaves and alfresco today, and the lintels although I didn't notice them. Back to do the render, doors feature wood and remaining alfresco tomorrow. Re: Our new home- Front facade almost complete! 292Nov 03, 2017 11:08 pm Wow, what a difference today, with just a little paint. Really can't wait to see it with garage door down and front door painted to get a picture of the finished facade, then get those fences down! There is only one coat of paint on the pillars but looks so good already, painter has been asked not to do more until the converters have finished the driveway. Screed was done today... Apparently tiler will take a week to finish maybe 2. Driveway should be done within 2 weeks and fit out will take 2 weeks. So looking like we should get in for xmas! Painter will be onsite tomorrow to finish my front door and a few other bits. So as long as I get there when he's there I get to go onsite, I'm also hoping the tiler may find it in his heart to come past to do the water proofing...but I doubt he will. Re: Our new home 293Nov 04, 2017 7:02 pm Painter onsite again today for his last offical day. He will be back to do any touch ups etc, and last coat of render once concreter has finished the driveway and alfresco.
Pantry is massive there is more shelves on the left. Not sure what we are going to put in there! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Alfresco. That pole was supposed to be surfmist (because according to the colour consultant it would be better, then how it ends at the top, seeing as the rest was surfmist, even though the downpipe was monument. I just agreed at the time thinking I would end up painting it later, but the painter asked if I wanted it grey and I said yes! so much better. We want to eventually extend the alfresco towards the rear of the house, add some concrete and some form of roof- were thinking about those nice patterned panels to let light in and have a little shade, rather than a roof. Was going to paint the front door a different colour one day.. see how I go i'm not sure what colour. I rigged it up in photoshop and red doesn't look any good... green, blue, blue-green, purple? I like the deep dark colours.. But as it is now is nice and bright. Maybe when it gets dirty hahah, it will get painted. We also got our gas meter put in today! The bank is also going to be doing their inspection within the next 2-10 days, apparently they don't need to see it finished. Still no action on the tile front ;( Boo! When the tiles are done, then the electrician and plumber can come, then the flooring and appliances etc.. ooo.. can we be in before Christmas?? Re: Our new home 298Nov 11, 2017 1:15 pm Nice crossover and driveway. I didn’t know you can do your own crossover. Ours has been done by council and is smaller so driveway is not rectangle. It is straight in one end and curved on the other to meet the small crossover. Re: Our new home 299Nov 11, 2017 3:11 pm Wow thats a bit of a pain having it smaller than the driveway. I've been looking at some of the driveways in the area, the ones on hills and there are some awkward to navigate ones out there. I've always had a level driveway so this will be interesting for a little while! Im in Victoria, some of the estates have them pre done but ours we had to do ourselves- just got the builder to do it. I actually wish we could have cut the drain part out so it would be flat- again I guess its something you will get used to. Went past the house today and the concreters been to cut the concrete and the concrete looks weird! It looks like a leopard and is all spotty. I will question that if it doesn't change in the next couple of weeks. Still no tiler.
