Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 08, 2015 12:59 pm We had our tile selection quite some time ago (June 2014) and are now close to lock up. Our builder will be laying tiles to all our wet areas and we will be laying the same tile to the remainder of the living areas after handover. We contacted the tile company today about the current sale to see if it applies to our selected tile. To our surprise, we were informed that we won't be able to use that specific tile as it has been discontinued. That puts a spanner in the works because our entire set of internal selections were based around the flooring. It seems pointless to make your selection about ten months in advance if you can't have those tiles when it comes time to have them installed. Has anyone had this happen before and what was the outcome? Or is that ? I was somewhat annoyed; however my wife was way more bothered by it than I was, but she's gotten used to what we've got now. If they did for you what was done for us, they'll find a replacement that's nearly the same; it'll look very different if you put it next to the sample tile you're still gazing lovingly at once a week, but when you look at the replacement tile with all the other selections you've done it'll all still work perfectly together. IMHO. Re: Tiles selected at appointment no longer available 3Jan 08, 2015 2:21 pm Your reaction also seems to be the same as mine. My immediate response was that we can choose a different tile but my reaction differed somewhat to my other half. Have you tried to visit the showroom again and see if you can find one in similar colour to your previous selection? You should be able to choose a more expensive one if necessary without any cost because it's not your fault. The builder should absorb the difference Re: Tiles selected at appointment no longer available 5Jan 09, 2015 9:37 am Us women can be like that! I was annoyed that my builder told me they would not make a tile appointment until 6 weeks prior to them being laid however my sometimes brilliant hubby pointed out its probably because of discontinued lines and would mean we'd have to re pick if what we want now isn't available in a few months. Hopefully they will be able to track something down which is nearly identical Re: Tiles selected at appointment no longer available 6Jan 14, 2015 1:45 pm Hi Shambini, how are you going with your tile selection? Did you find anything you like? Re: Tiles selected at appointment no longer available 7Jan 15, 2015 8:05 pm I think reading this thread jinxed us. Got a call from the tile company on Wednesday to say that the floor/wall tile that we are using in all our bathrooms has been discontinued. Turned out ok though. I went there today and found a tile that I think would work better anyway. They also waived the extra labour charges because they are large format so it looks like we caught a break for once. The store manager contact us and said that although the product had been discontinued, he managed to find a supply of the stock.
