I love that floor plan looks like you have everything you need! Love the big living areas, storage space, and looks very spacious.. can't wait to see it all come together Re: D3US_85 - building in Baldivis, WA 42Feb 28, 2015 11:29 pm What a wonderful plan I think I'm going to have kitchen envy .... and theatre, and WIR It is going to be HUGE! Although I think your ensuite wc is fine as it is, have you ever considered putting the basin next to the loo? I think it might make it feel more spacious? You'd have to have a smaller vanity but I think it could work. Using the same basin etc as in your picture now, this is what I mean: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ (I've googled some images to illustrate what I mean, not necessarily as is, but to give an idea) You could either have a narrower vanity - like it was before, or even have a wall hung wc against the same 'vanity'/wall. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Or you could have a wall hung basin with a fancy trap next to the loo - it would again add 'space' but then you'd lose your storage. Like this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ or Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I actually think this last one doesn't have enough space between the wall and the loo - I think the ideal is to have at least 20cm to the sides of the seat. But your wc seems to have ample space if my 'calculations' are right. Really looking forward to follow your progress and build Who knows, we might be on the same timelines! Re: D3US_85 - building in Baldivis, WA 43Mar 01, 2015 12:43 am Thanks for that Malsannie, I'd not really considered that option and it does open it up a bit. Loss of storage probably won't really matter either as I'm not a fan of storing stuff in the toilet haha... just paper rolls and air freshener I guess haha... Re: D3US_85 - building in Baldivis, WA 44Mar 01, 2015 12:47 am My toliet was wide enough to have a powder room .dont know where I had been all these years lol . But I never thought of one . Lol but I do think that the basin needs to be the right size and look . Re: D3US_85 - building in Baldivis, WA 45Mar 01, 2015 12:52 am Actually quite like the first pic you posted with the shelf across as a built in, probably could have a larger basin and toilet and delete the bedaise... (I think thats how its spelt). Thanks for that. Re: D3US_85 - building in Baldivis, WA 46Mar 01, 2015 12:56 am No problem I'm glad it gives you more options I also really like the first one - with the shelf and the wall facing loo. I have no idea re bedaise, I thought it was a bidet hehe Re: D3US_85 - building in Baldivis, WA 47Mar 01, 2015 12:56 am Melsie your right and its so hard to visualise it off a plan and get the scale right. Have you thought of perhaps getting one installed in your WC now or will you just leave it as it is. It's definitely not a big deal just convenience for guests or clients for us I think. Otherwise I'd actually prefer to get rid of it and use the space in the ensuite itself rather than a powder room. Re: D3US_85 - building in Baldivis, WA 48Mar 01, 2015 1:00 am Google just proved you right Malsannie, years working in Indonesia has turned me off ever having something like that in a bathroom... I'll leave it at that. Re: D3US_85 - building in Baldivis, WA 49Mar 01, 2015 1:39 am Here is another example of a hidden cistern wall facing loo and a semi recessed basin. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ (found here http://www.houzz.co.uk/photos/13985987/ ... oom-london) And you're right, you could have a larger basin doing it that way - as it will definitely not extend past the loo. Win win! Re: D3US_85 - building in Baldivis, WA 51Mar 01, 2015 5:57 am haha they like to make a mess with water do they? Re: D3US_85 - building in Baldivis, WA 52Mar 02, 2015 1:45 pm Just discovered your thread, posting to follow. Wow, your floorplan is amazing! So many changes to the original you can't tell it was the same one Your WIR and WIP are going to be amazing, really can't wait to see it come to life. Hope you don't get bogged down in admin like I was! Re: D3US_85 - building in Baldivis, WA 53Mar 03, 2015 6:04 am Hi Trixee Thanks I'm a bit worried how pricing will come out though. Trying to stick to a budget and finding it very hard when you factor in all the extras... of which there are many to think of. You are doing really well with yours. It's a beautiful home that you are building and I'm looking forward to seeing it progress. Can see and appreciate how much thought and planning that you and your husband have put in to it. You're right about admin, I started working on plans albeit not this one back in April/June 2013. Re: D3US_85 - building in Baldivis, WA 54Mar 03, 2015 7:17 am Budget - what's that We were so naive when we started looking into this build thing - it is difficult to stick to a budget when you see all the beautiful options out there! Re: D3US_85 - building in Baldivis, WA 55Mar 03, 2015 12:35 pm We well and truly blew our budget a long time ago! The problem is that they give you a price at a very basic spec, which seems reasonable, and you think to yourself, oh I won't be upgrading much. Bull-crap! But at the end of the day, if you can afford it, I think you're better off spending a bit more to get the house you want, especially if you're planning on living in it for a long time. Re: D3US_85 - building in Baldivis, WA 56Mar 04, 2015 12:51 pm Looks like a fantastic build! One thing I have picked up is where would your meter box go? There's no room on the right hand side and the left hand side I don't think you can put it because of the retaining wall? Other than that, I think all looks fantastic! I probably would move the pool so that I have more space for around the pool with pool chairs and to reduce the costs of the glass panels, they are so expensive! But it's totally your personal choice Another thing, we have awning windows like that either side of the bed in the master. Make sure they are apart enough over the size of your bed. We have a king bed and luckily picked up in drafting they needed to be further apart otherwise our bed head would of covered some of the windows. It's like that. So easy to get carried away with so many options and sites like Pinterest, Houzz and Homeone exposing you to things you never thought of before is making it even harder. I think I'm still naive. trixee We well and truly blew our budget a long time ago! Trixee your home is definitely looking to be special, in a good area and you're planning on staying there for a while. You're right I think sometimes it's worth spending a little extra. Just need to be selective on just how many little extras there are haha... Caraf88 Looks like a fantastic build! One thing I have picked up is where would your meter box go? The meter box is shown on the plan as being on the left hand side, I didn't know about restrictions with retaining. I'll have to ask about it. Yeah I think I'd probably end up putting a feature wall at the back fence with a water feature and then pool in front with glass u shaped around it, those plans are a long way off in the future though I think haha... Good point about the space around the pool. Will need to look at things more closely when I've got a better sense of scale. Yeah the awning windows in master have concerned me a lot. I want to make a king size bed and don't want it to look cramped. As the one we have atm is a queen that I made years ago. Need to look at this further and see what the options are regarding windows. Re: D3US_85 - building in Baldivis, WA 58Mar 05, 2015 11:45 am Glad I could help Also make sure you are confident on where you will place your pool in the future because your pool can't be installed over soak wells. Placing it near the fence will reduce your glass costs. Also consider where you would hide your pump, we are hiding it down the side of the house otherwise we would of had to have a water feature which starting price through freedom was $3000. Also an idea of costing of glass through freedom was $530 a LM for frameless or $330 for framed a LM installed. We are just doing it ourselves cheaper afterwards, but it's still costly! You're right it is pretty costly but it seems most things related to building are especially options that look nice. Just have to slowly work away at stuff I think. I'm going to do overheads after handover for example as those are going to cost a fortune I think. Re: D3US_85 - building in Baldivis, WA 60Mar 05, 2015 9:39 pm Overhead cupboards? If your doing them a different colour to the bottom cupboards I wouldn't see why not, but if your doing both the bottom and tops the same colour I would suggest just to do it all at once, because you want the same batch of the colours. We have our kitchen colour cupboards that are also in our laundry in the same colour. Laundry got done 2 months before the kitchen, the laundry is so much darker.. Different batch we noticed.
