Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 02, 2015 6:45 pm My builder has sent me the invoice for the pad, but not confident that they have completed the pad properly. In the image below, I have footings in the green section, but nothing in the red. There are also footings at the back of the garage, up to the retaining wall which borders our block. According to the builder, there "should" be footings under the retaining wall that they can build on. After a quick shovel check, I can feel a footing of about 10cm wide, and about 40cm below the level of the other footings. My concern is that with a 10cm width there is not going be any footings under the return bit in red (where garage door will be secured). Should I be concerned with this? I paid bill and noted that it was paid on condition that footing was poured. In my situation it couldn't be poured as some numpty dug a hole for sand in the way. Suggest you might want s building inspector to do a slab inspection. Re: Is my builder missing footings? 3Jan 05, 2015 7:25 am To me it looks as though you will have an infill garage slab. That's fine. This means that you must have a strip footing in the Red Zone. I doubt that a 100mm wide strip footing is sufficient. Ask for the slab engineering drawing. It will detail everywhere the slab and footings should be, and also size. Re: Is my builder missing footings? 4Jan 07, 2015 3:52 pm Turns out that we were right, the builder had missed footings, which have now been installed: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Note to self: be extremely vigilant for the remainder of the build! To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9862 Hey guys building a new place through a volume builder and just wondering if i should complain to the site supervisor as we just had plasterboard installed.
