Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 02, 2015 11:11 am We are just in the process of purchasing land so we can build our new home. I was hoping by coming on to this forum some people may be able to help provide some tips on one or more of the following questions Did you find it cheaper to go through a private builder/contractor or franchise? Did you research your own plan or go off a set plan and were you happy with the result? Did you have to sell your current home and rent while your new home was being built? What tips do you have on doing this, and also saving money in the meanwhile? In what ways did you save money? Ie if you wanted a bigger living area did you then cut costs in other aspects? Did you find it easier to get the bare minimum in the build then purchase things like clotheslines, blinds etc later on when you had more funds to do so? Please share any tips. We are excited about building but also finding the process very scary! Re: Building a new house! 2Jan 02, 2015 11:50 am i purchased land first then had a custom home built through a builder. i was able to talk directly to owner of the franchise which worked great and they listened to my ideas and also had their own and combined came to the home i have now. as the build progressed i put my old home on the market and was very lucky to sell in three weeks and to someone who was willing to settle a couple of days after i had moved into the new home so did not have to look at renting. once you have settled on a plan get a few quotes for your floor coverings blinds etc as doing these your self will save, i saved by getting my own tiles and tiler which enabled me to spend in other areas. i have a link to my build below. look at lots of display homes and plans etc. also look through this forum for hints and there is aslo a thread called things i forgot which is very handy. this may also come in handy http://bendigowaldorf.blogspot.com.au/p ... rades.html this member has lots of good ideas from contract onwards Yes well there solution is to blame everyone else while I a 65yr old woman with major medical problems have to just continue to boil water and wash myself in a bucket… 2 16019 If you make sure all taps inside and out are turned off, what does the water meter show if you leave it for a while. 2 20239 13 6636 |
