Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 21, 2014 10:54 am Did you pay for the electricity for your build? We're building with Simonds in SA and have been given two forms to sign relating to power: 1. SA Power Networks (State electricity authority) new electricity supply form 2. Origin Energy (electricity/gas retailer) Request for Energy Supply form Are/What are we going to be slugged now? What does filling in those two forms attract? Husband said we may be charged connection, then moving the meter box onto house as well as the power for the build. Is this right? If so what might this be? What did it cost you Re: Who pays for electricity during build? 3Dec 21, 2014 3:26 pm We're already paying $165 a quarter for water. $165 pa for Emergency Services levy and $1600pa council rates ... All for postage-stamp size empty land What water will they 'use'? The slab is pre-mixed. So is that a 'yes' we have to pay electricity. (If so, I question what we are paying them for?!) Re: Who pays for electricity during build? 4Dec 21, 2014 3:31 pm Tc, our water bull during the build was 3kl, so less than $7 in water charges. Barely anything on top of the normal supply charge. The power was minimal also, I think the bill was $70 for that quarter. Origin has no cancellation fees so I just churned to our regular provider when we moved in and it was painless. Did Simonds cover the cost of the power distribution panel for the tradies to access the power? Re: Who pays for electricity during build? 6Dec 21, 2014 6:14 pm Yeah there were no extra charges. Just the usage costs themselves. The the house is then built around it, rather than have a separate builders power box. Stewie Having worked in the construction industry I used the long standing principle of 'If you stuff up make it a Feature". . . . . I painted the meter box door with a trompe l'oeil of a sulphur crested cockie inside a 'cage' . It was back in 1991, long before digital cameras, so I haven't got a good photo (This link shows you another meter box cover I saw a couple of years ago. http://www.anewhouse.com.au/2012/12/out ... ting-pass/) The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
