Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 20, 2014 9:52 am Can anyone give me their opinion of this brickwork. We have a huge bed of mortar under sliding door frame it is 24mm thick? And looks unsightly. Some perpends are 5mm thick and others 17mm thick. Miss aligned brickwork and the end filled with mortar.
Can someone tell me how to post photos so I can put some pics up for you to see please. Re: Bad Brickwork opinions please? 2Dec 20, 2014 10:20 am Can't see any photos but based on what you have said this would not comply with A.S 3700. How to embed a photo on this site... viewtopic.php?f=1&t=58434&start=20 About fourteen posts down This is for uploading a photo to photobucket. Other file hosting sites are similar. (Note: You wont see the image until you post your message/topic) It has to be on a picture sharing website like photobucket or imgur and then you copy the link then paste that into your post here on the forums These are " baby" steps. Once you have done it a few times it is really just a couple of mouse clicks. PHOTO'S 9Dec 21, 2014 11:20 am Although there are tolerances for width of perpend joints and bed joints. They are normally applied in the context of them all being uniform. That is to say if one bed joint was 15mm then it woul require them all to be 15mm. Where you have an example such as yours this would not comply. The first course looks like it is sitting on the footing. That is why you have a double thickness bed joint on the second course. This is non Compliant and you should make a complaint to your builder with your concerns. [Edit: Advertising links removed by moderator] Re: Bad Brickwork opinions please? PHOTO'S 11Dec 21, 2014 12:00 pm Building inspector, can they take those bricks out and replace them or will they walls that are affected need to be re done? Re: Bad Brickwork opinions please? PHOTO'S 12Dec 21, 2014 12:17 pm Busso girl Building inspector, can they take those bricks out and replace them or will they walls that are affected need to be re done? With the bed joint issue you can remove three or four bricks at a time and re-lay. The level they are at would be -1 course from your slab which is your paving/landscaping level so it will mostly be concealed. The main concern is the lack of bond between the footing and the brickwork. As the load is a compressive load an engineer may sign off to say it is okay but I would doubt it. As for the perpend joints I would say the bricks to the affected areas should be able to be replaced. From what I can see it does not look like whole panels would have to come down but what you have provided is a snapshot of the issue and it can't be assessed comprehensively without seeing it. I would however suggest this be done sooner rather than later as it will be harder to blend the mortar if it is left for months [Edit: Advertising links removed by moderator] Re: Bad Brickwork opinions please? PHOTO'S 13Dec 21, 2014 1:39 pm That all makes sense. Thanks heaps for your help. I am in the same situation, would you be able to give some insights in to this?
