Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Suffolk Park - Aussie Living - Keys 4 Dec! 481Dec 05, 2015 5:56 am Picked up keys yesterday, such a relief! But as predicted, still plenty not done that was meant to be. A few of the things he had fixed by the time I went and got the keys from head office and returned which was good (one of the vanity plumbing wasn't connected still, painting of manhole cover, weather strip on front door to stop rattles). Still need flyscreens but they have been promised for Monday. Same with the retaining wall out the front of the block on the garage side as my block sits slightly higher than next doors, so the downpipe also needs to be raised as it's too low at the moment. We commenced painting! Oh how I will never do it again. Maybe it wouldn't have been so bad if I didn't get hit hard with a flu on Thursday night, since I was hurting all afternoon/evening and the fumes from the oil-based sealer were not doing my headache and nasal congestion any favors at all. I sealed from about 4-8 then a couple of others stayed until around 10. We kick it off again at 8 this morning and will hopefully get the first lot of color on this evening (this sealer takes 16-24 hours before we can paint on it ) But, all in all, I have keys, I have a house, I'm very happy =] Re: Suffolk Park - Aussie Living - Keys 4 Dec! 482Dec 05, 2015 7:44 am Congratulations on getting keys, kron how exciting is that!!! Sorry to hear about the flu, I've been a bit under the weather too with a cold and can only imagine having to do painting - very brave. Looking forward to pics and I hope they keep their promises re the outstanding bits and pieces! So so happy for you Re: Suffolk Park - Aussie Living - Keys 4 Dec! 483Dec 05, 2015 9:16 am Congrats on keys Kron, how exciting! Hope you get better soon! The paint smell doesn't help . How are you managing to paint with your broken wrist? Can't wait to see the painting pics. Hopefully they don't take too long to fix those outstanding issues for you, it is frustrating isn't it?! Hoping you get better soon, sounds like you are eager to get stuck into it all!! Re: Suffolk Park - Aussie Living - Keys 4 Dec! 485Dec 05, 2015 12:43 pm Congrats Kron all coming together. House is looking a treat !! Re: Suffolk Park - Aussie Living - We gots the keys 487Dec 06, 2015 9:44 pm Thanks guys Spent all weekend since Friday afternoon painting and we are finally done (or 95%, still got cupboards and WIR to do but we'll do that later, it's sealed for now). Absolutely drained!!! The lord must hate me too because I got a screw in my tyre and its gone flat Left my car at new house and got the Mrs to drive us back to the rental. Now comes the moving! Was going to use a friend of mine who has his own side business as a removalist, but he has just fractured his foot so there goes that plan. Need a new plan of attack for this one, but as for now it's sleep and rest and hope I wake up feeling somewhat decent tomorrow. Re: Suffolk Park - Aussie Living - We gots the keys 488Dec 07, 2015 6:53 am Oh dear - you do sound like you may have angered the gods Well done on doing all that painting yourselves - and that with a broken wrist! I'm sure you'll wake up feeling a huge sense of accomplishment - you deserve to Re: Suffolk Park - Aussie Living - We gots the keys 489Dec 07, 2015 12:05 pm Congrats on keys kron! How did you go painting with your wrist? I am keen to paint myself, just not looking forward to doing the sealer! Re: Suffolk Park - Aussie Living - We gots the keys 490Dec 07, 2015 12:17 pm Thanks I dont want to put you off painting but I have officially jumped on the never painting again bandwagon. Definitely not for me and the sealer sucks haha. Smells so bad and takes forever to dry. Not sure if you have painted before but make sure you seal THEN fill in any holes/blemishes in the walls as its very hard to sand back the plaster and sooo much more appears once you have sealed. Go around with a light held at an angle to the wall to get different views as some things only appear when certain light hits it. Its very satisfying though to be able to say we painted our whole house ourselves but i think I'll fork out the 4-5 grand next time and leave it to the pros haha. Re: Suffolk Park - Aussie Living - We gots the keys 491Dec 07, 2015 12:18 pm Oh and the wrist was ok. It was a bit tricky when i had to switch hands to roll on the left insides of walls but got through it fine Re: Suffolk Park - Aussie Living - We gots the keys 492Dec 07, 2015 12:55 pm I have painted a whole house before, but I haven't ever sealed. I would love to get someone in to paint, just not sure if the funds will allow it! I think I should go buy a lotto ticket! Re: Suffolk Park - Aussie Living - We gots the keys 493Dec 10, 2015 1:35 pm I wish I could buy a lotto ticket, but funds are tight at the moment now hahah. Spent the last 3 days building flat pack left but its an outdoor table setting which can wait till we get outside paved first! Re: Suffolk Park - Aussie Living - We gots the keys 497Dec 15, 2015 1:25 pm looks great did aussie living do your lights ? Re: Suffolk Park - Aussie Living - We gots the keys 498Dec 15, 2015 2:50 pm Thanks, it's not the best pic cos I'm working night shift now so don't really get a chance to snap some good ones with darkness but yeah very happy with it. I used a company called Lion Electrical to install the lights, not done through aussie Re: Suffolk Park - Aussie Living - We gots the keys 499Dec 17, 2015 4:24 pm Love the kitchen - you must be so happy to get keys!!!!!! All settled in by now? I'll send Lion Electrical a quote request too - I think you recommended Brian Jim's inspections? Thanks for that - he was great. I would be wary.
