Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 18, 2014 5:51 pm Hi all, I am currently at slab down stage and looking at possible complications that the brickwork stage my throw my way. One of my garage walls (zero lot wall) is being built directly against an existing retaining wall of approx 60cm height (we are the lower block). My concern is that moisture from the higher block will seep through the retaining wall, straight through my single brick wall and into the garage. Has anyone else had a similar issue? What options are available to protect against this? Is there a sealer that I can apply to the retaining wall before the bricks start going up? Thanks, Alex Follow my build here: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=74975 Re: Moisture protection for zero lot wall against retaining 2Dec 18, 2014 11:53 pm Yes you are correct. moisture will migrate through the wall via capillary action from the retaining wall. You can seal the limestone wall with bitkote 5. Also be mindful that moisture can penetrate your single leaf garage wall even if the retaining wall was not there. The Building Code of Australia classifies a garage as a non habitable area so it does not need to be damp proof. You can however seal the outside of the single skin to minimize this using a masonry sealer. I'll look at sealing the retaining wall in the first place as I'll lose the opportunity when the bricks go in. Will consider sealing the whole wall down the track, but my main concern was any items on shelves directly against that wall Follow my build here: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=74975 You must be new to the internet.
