Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 15, 2014 10:44 pm hi there, we are close to deciding on final plans with ventura in perth. In terms of ceiling heights their houses come with 30c as standard in the first floor and 28c on the second floor. The cost to increase the lower to 31c is AUD7,000 which is a lot for just 10cm. for the second floor i am not fussed as it's mostly the kids bedrooms, we will definitely do a recess ceiling in the master bedroom (to 30C) which costs AUD2,500. Interested to hear any thoughts/reactions/experiences. My initial thoughts are that 7,000 could be better spend elsewhere and the rooms are pretty sizeable so i don't think you'd feel claustrophobic. Re: ceiling heights 2Dec 16, 2014 7:41 am If it were me I'd rather spend 7 grand on the kitchen instead of 8-10cm of ceiling height. 28c is fine for bedrooms and I would also rather put 2500 into the ensuite vs the master ceiling but depends on your budget and must have list! Re: ceiling heights 3Dec 18, 2014 1:31 pm I think high ceilings really make a house. However, if your budget doesn't allow for 31 throughout, perhaps just have 31 (instead of 30) in your living areas and entrance, and 28 throughout rest of house as is. And put the money toward perhaps higher sliders/stacker doors in the downstairs living area to make it appear more open etc? 1 C difference is only approx 90mm Otherwise, tell them you think it sound exorbitant compared to other prices you're aware and ask if they can recalculate.
