Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 15, 2014 5:45 pm Hi All, I'm finalising plans to start building in Jindalee, WA early 2015 and at the point where I need to meet Intelligent Homes. We have a pretty large house and I think it makes sense to have a few data and TV points around the house - Does anyone have advice regarding using Intelligent Homes and do you have any suggested alternatives? Thanks Re: Smart Wiring / Intelligent Homes 2Dec 19, 2014 12:24 am Personally i thought Intelligent Homes were far over rated, and stupidly expensive for what they do. The majority of the work they complete is pretty basic data cabling that can be done by any licensed data cabler - which is most electricians. Don't get me wrong - i know they do some of the more complex home automation stuff and integrated alarm/access systems, though i expect they probably charge through the nose for this.. But majority of there work is pretty basic stuff, they've just positioned themselves very well in the market, and have gotten into bed with most of the builders. My advise - shop around. Work out where you need data/tv points and have the builder quote them. Also have them quote just putting in conduits and then have your own sparky/cabler come in afterwards. Don't under estimate the cabling either - almost everything these days is internet capable! Re: Smart Wiring / Intelligent Homes 3Jan 28, 2015 6:15 pm I agree with Elemist. We have the price from Intelligent Home and their price is three times the cost you have the Smart wiring done by independent data cabler. The main thing is marking the place you are going to have the data / tv points and ask the builder to put the conduits in for future wiring after the hand over. It normally costs $60 per point . We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds. The quote above was purely for “pre-wiring” so the blinds company can install the motors and blinds.
