Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 12, 2014 9:24 am Hi all After a long time mucking around looking at different project and custom builders, I now feel slightly confident enough to start my own building thread. I will treat it like starting from the very beginning. We have acquired a block of land in the Lake Macquarie area, near Newcastle NSW. We plan to do a knock down rebuild and I am especially keen to get going now our first child is on the way. We are living with family at this time so that is another challenge especially with baby coming which means I am really looking forward to moving into our new home. We weren't sure about the tender and custom plan provided by the last builder we looked at. It was $1500 to have those drawn but in that case are retained by the builder. So now we are back to the drawing board with perhaps what we should have done initially. We are having plans drafted by an architect. While we likely know what builder we go with we will then own them and can choose who to use. Our concept meeting with the architect is this Monday, and they have two ideas to show us. Looking forward to it. Stay tuned! Re: Our custom build - Lake Macquarie - Newcastle NSW - *con 2Dec 16, 2014 9:22 am We have seen the architect yesterday and are really happy with the plan he put forth. It's far better than anything we were looking at before, although different. I am concerned about whether it can be brought in on budget though, which is not huge. There are two concepts he has done but there is one we far prefer. The next step will be to get a quote from the builder and see if we can afford it. Once again the race is on to get finance before I go on leave.. It is in lake macquarie area and dimensions are width 14 m and depth 8 m and the slope is 1/5 going down from the road. 1 7088 Well these guys are not looking good...
