Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 12, 2014 5:11 am Hey all, Can anyone give me honest advice as to whether it is worth the 5k extra for an anticon blanket?? I am confused as to the difference??? I know that the blanket offers more insulation against sound (rain etc) but what are the other benefits??? Cheers Jo Jo Building 'The Havana Executive' on 1200sqm Re: Colourbond roof- Sarking or blanket? 3Dec 12, 2014 10:12 am You don't say where you live but if you are in an area of hot summers then the blanket insulation will definitely keep more of the heat out of your ceiling space as opposed to just the sarking. What sort of R-rating is their quote for or how thick ? Stewie Re: Colourbond roof- Sarking or blanket? 4Dec 12, 2014 2:56 pm Anticon is designed to help stop condensation - but also has sound benefits and other thermal performance benefits (conductance and reflective). Shoot your assessor an email - what difference in stars does it give you? For me, I saved only ~3MJs/m² (but this is on top of pretty high insulation and Low-E glazing) - so wasn't an economic decision for me, but an environmental & acoustic one. What location are you in, what colour roof are you going, and how big is your house? Cheers Jo Hi we are also building in the Hunter area, we are getting the anticon blanket with our promo package instead of the sarking heard it's much better if it helps I think the blanket is much better for colourbond roofing aswell which we have chosen also in our promo instead of tiles where abouts in hunter are you building and which builder if you don't mind me asking? Thanks Re: Colourbond roof- Sarking or blanket? 7Dec 31, 2014 3:02 pm Hi Sheffieldhunter, We went with the Anticom. We are building at Waterford in Chisholm and we are going with McDonald Jones! What about you??? What home are you building with MJH? Building the Sheffield 25 + 2 sq Re: Colourbond roof- Sarking or blanket? 9Dec 31, 2014 5:18 pm I liked the SHeffield too! We are building the Havana executive Getting MJH to do pretty well everything though, flooring, blinds etc! We will do driveway and fencing though Jo Building 'The Havana Executive' on 1200sqm Re: Colourbond roof- Sarking or blanket? 10Dec 31, 2014 6:13 pm Yeah it's a good layout it should suit us well. If you don't mind me asking how much is it costing you to build the Havana in total as we only got a rough estimate you can pm me if you like?
