Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building At Macarthur Heights (UWS Campbelltown) 101Jan 01, 2017 9:40 am Hi All, I am a new member and have put deposit in for a lot in stage 3. I need to decide which building company I should go with, McDonald Jones (MJH) or Champion homes. I have put deposit in for MJH under pressure when I asked for an extension to the corridor of the Havana design. The designer suggested Vienna design would suit me better. I have received deposit variation (estimate) over $352k, which includes a few extra modifications (an ensuite to Bedroom 4 to make 2 master bedrooms and high ceilings of 2.7m etc. but does not include flooring (extra 1.85k for Laminate flooring). Got on to Champion Homes (CH) and the estimate is about $290k including tiles all through. Spoken to a few people and everyone says MJH is very expensive. I have been told by CH that people normally get a few tenders in then decide which one to go. This means I will need to pay $850 to CH, and $1000 to Metricon to get their tenders. I am not sure now if I should do that. Any one has experience with MJH, pricing, services and quality, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Re: Building At Macarthur Heights (UWS Campbelltown) 102Jan 01, 2017 11:04 am MHjs Hi All, I am a new member and have put deposit in for a lot in stage 3. Thanks I like the design of MJH but it's the price that deters me but they do build quality home. We're building with Beechwood and our tender is free, we just have to choose among their many floor plans we want. Just be aware that some builder's standard inclusion could be other's extra so choose wisely and of course if it suits your budget. What we also learned is that other builder's are not willing to have their plans changed or modifications are very limited but we find BWH to be very accommodating. Flooring, alarm, remote controlled garage, rain tank, fly screens to all windows, roof over the alfresco/terrazza, H slab are some of their inclusions while I find these extras to other builders. Just thought to share our experience. We're about to build in Hillcroft (near Blairmount. In Campbelltown) buildingourhumblehome.blogspot.com.au Re: Building At Macarthur Heights (UWS Campbelltown) 103Jan 01, 2017 11:36 am Thanks Tapatalk. It is good to know at least MJH builds quality homes. I have checked Beechwood website. They only have display house in SA and I could not find any design/floor plan on their website. In the Gallery they have photos for 5 house designs but no floor plans. Have I not looked thorough enough? Have I not looked thorough enough? Where are you building? They have display homes here in Gledswood Hills (Homeworld) and another one in Oran Park. I'm thinking you are building here in the South West Sydney? buildingourhumblehome.blogspot.com.au Re: Building At Macarthur Heights (UWS Campbelltown) 105Jan 01, 2017 6:06 pm I am building in Macarthur Heights. You are right it is South West Sydney. I am not sure why the Beechwood website only shows me Adelaide office/display house. Probably my current physical location is in Broken Hill that is closer to SA. I am leaving tomorrow and will check when I am in Sydney. Thanks Re: Building At Macarthur Heights (UWS Campbelltown) 106Jan 01, 2017 6:29 pm MHjs I am building in Macarthur Heights. You are right it is South West Sydney. Thanks There is another builder I think that's called Beechwood in SA but that's our builder... if you have the time check the display homes that I've mentioned and see how you go...all the best and hope to hear from you on how your build is going... I'm blogging our build but nothing much is happening so it's stalled for abit. Thank you so much. It is Beechwoodhomes.com.au I will update you how I progress. At this stage I am still trying to find a right building company and a right design for me. What would be ideal design for me is 2 storey house that has a master bedroom downstairs, or a single storey house that has a granny flat/teenage retreat upstairs. Mum is 82 and she needs to live downstairs. I love views so upstairs would be nice for me. If any one has seen/known such design please l would be grateful to know. Thanks Re: Building At Macarthur Heights (UWS Campbelltown) 109Jan 08, 2017 8:48 am Have found DUO design from MJH that is very nice. Also noted Symphony Twin from Masterton. But the Symphony Twin design does not have internal access from the main house to the granny flat. Has any one had experience with granny flat under one roof? I probably will go with MJH. Will post updates for people who are interested. Likewise any advices would be appreciated. By the time we got the selections stage the build was going to cost almost $500K and that did not include flooring. We found they mark up where quite steep - 12K to upgrade to a different level of caeserstone in the kitchen even though caeserstone was included in our base cost. They are also not as flexible with their plans. We were told a different storey when we first consulted with them. We paid $3,500.00 to them and due to the continued delays with the land being registered they were going slug us with thousands in fees. We decided to cut our losses and not sign the contract. We are now going through Fairmont Homes with a custom build which is not going to cost anymore than MJH. The design process so far has been fun and cannot wait to see the finished product of a home we designed ourselves from scratch. It is frustrating though that the registration date is continually being pushed back. Good luck with your build. Re: Building At Macarthur Heights (UWS Campbelltown) 112Feb 20, 2017 10:55 am Is anyone building with Hudson homes in Macarthur Heights. I would like their feed back if any. Thanks, Re: Building At Macarthur Heights (UWS Campbelltown) 115May 08, 2017 11:26 am Hi, Can any one tell me for corner lot what is the expected setback in MacArthur Heights. Cheers, Paul. Re: Building At Macarthur Heights (UWS Campbelltown) 117May 11, 2017 9:31 pm sheik I got a land in stage 3. do anyone have any idea when exactly they gonna register the land? Landcom website says June 2017 but if you have the DP number than you can check the status on LPI website. If not than you can ask your solicitor to get the DP number form the developer or your solicitor can get the update from the developer directly Building "The Havana Executive Elite" Building Standards; Getting It Right!
