Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our House in Bayside Melbourne 41Aug 30, 2008 1:49 pm Scot, your house has come along beautifully. I hope your handover goes off without a hitch. I lookf forward to seeing the final product. Just lovely. Re: Our House in Bayside Melbourne 42Sep 08, 2008 8:34 am Thanks all:
As of Friday last week we have a new house. Over the weekend it started to become our home. Pre handover inspection brought up a couple of things. Nothing major - mainly paint and floor finish. There was a couple of carpentery type things that required about a day at site. Nearly all were resolved prior to handover. The little things that still need to be resolved are so minor and involve the trades that were well lubricated during construction - I have their cards / contact details and they are happy to visit directly. One minor hick-up leading to handover was a hot water leak from laundry tap. This caused damage to timber butt on door and required the carpet to be dried and cleaned. This was satisfactorily completed before, during and slightly after handover. The good thing about this was the plumber removed the seconadry washer and brass extension from all tapes, this means the water flow in laundry trough and bathrooms is much improved. Anyway - time for some photos: We got the HWU moved. I investigated the Plumbing Regulations and spoke with Plumbing Commission. Proximity to an open window was the issue - so have the window 'fixed' (a couple of screws) and problem goes away. The kitchen finished (Colour correct)- appliance from kleenmaid arrive and installed latter this week. Stools from BBO - absolute bargain - make 'em an offer. Our phone bench, for the bills and the laptop. Walk in Pantry - don’t forget the power point. Childrens bathroom Linen Closet (for the last 8 years we have used half our son's rather large wardrobe) Rear passage way including our shaft of light (its actually about six feet long - pain for the painter and will be a nightmare to clean) Our study and comms room (note the datapoints etc at the bottom) The front door & the skylight in front entrance: Ensuite (including gift from the builder) Walkin robe (not sure we have enough clothes - yet !) Windows in formal room - we had the curtain guys in straight after handover - now waiting for quote. Our small grog cabinet - for the important stuff. Finally - Clipsal Starserv - not sure its all done right. Wait to install antenna before I start my next round of emails Scardee Re: Our House in Bayside Melbourne 45Sep 08, 2008 9:00 am Wow....handover thats fantastic..........a few finishing touches and moving in next....how exciting...... A few questions from me, sorry What colour are your bathroom benchtops? They look nice with the pebble tile under the mirror. Where did you get your stools from .. BBO? Where are they? Nice. You built with Glenvill didn't you? How did you find them on the whole, would you recommend them? thanks Re: Our House in Bayside Melbourne 52Sep 09, 2008 6:36 am donuts Looks fantastic scardee, congratulations! Their contract clauses are very restrictive - site access, payment schedules and variations. I wanted to be "part of the process", we choose to build new after going thru a full design and engage process to reno old house. Our mind set was to be fully across the build process. Glenvill did not appreciate this involvment. However I would use them again - I would ask for the specific SS and trades . Re: Our House in Bayside Melbourne 53Sep 09, 2008 5:00 pm Hi Scardee,
I also built the same house as you did from Glenvill. My experience with them was really good apart from some minor hiccup. We had a pretty good SS and it's probably the same one that you had as he does a few Gallarias. I would recommend Glenvill as although they had their share of problems in the media, we didn't experience any major problems with them. All in all, our build started in late Dec and was completed end of last month. Re: Our House in Bayside Melbourne 54Sep 09, 2008 5:10 pm thanks scardee and exsing *storing away information for later*
If you do a search on them in this forum some scary things are written, so good to know there are good stories with them as they have some great house designs! I think as with everything nowadays, you will get some good with some bad. It's just that the bad usually gets a lot more publicity which usually scares a lot of people. I will definitely post some photos of our place once I figure out to do it on homeone. But our place is pretty much the Gallaria display that Glenvill used to have in North Brighton. It's no longer a display anymore though. Re: Our House in Bayside Melbourne 56Sep 09, 2008 9:28 pm exsing I will definitely post some photos of our place once I figure out to do it on homeone. We have had a couple of issues - plumbing, stormwater. They and the trades that have visited have been exceptional. Based on stories from others on this site and more importantly actual press and proceedings where Glenvill have been the defendant, I was concerned about this stage of our relationship. So far this has been the easiest and most rewarding part of the experience. We are in our house, the problems we have had have been addressed quickly and the guys that have come to site have been pleasant, professional and most importantly have treated us and the house with respect. Their attention to cleanliness etc was certainly a surprise. We had a problem with the storm water system - the suspect is the slab peg out. Anyway the guys ended up replacing about 50% of the storm water piping. This was done over a couple of days. They had to dig it out by hand - thank goodness for sandy soil. of course there are legal avenues. You've already mentioned it. Sue them. I find it odd that lawyers wouldnt be willing to take on the case, given CCT evidence and… 1 23764 I do enjoy the drama:-D In his latest two videos he has started bringing security guards to site, I am waiting for the punch on to begin lol 6 45547 It's all about wireless, self install now.
