Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 02, 2014 10:29 pm Hi, I have a builder in Adelaide telling me their slab requirements/costs will be lower due to the lightweight cladding used (Primeline weatherboard with some Hebel) as apposed to brick veneer. I'm in the north east and expect H2 soil (that's what the neighbor has). Does this sound right? Has anyone heard similar claims? Overall there is insufficient difference to foundation loading in single storey construction whichever cladding system you use. If that's the case then why does the Australian Standard for slabs/footings specify different footing depths depending on building material (clad, BV, full brick, etc)? I would have thought the deeper the footing, the more time required to prepare (not a lot), heavy gauge or more reinforcing and of course, more concrete. These things do impact the cost of the foundations. ----------------------------------------------- http://pab34newdigs.blogspot.com.au/ ----------------------------------------------- This was on google.
