Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Tasmanian First Home Builders - Our House 21May 04, 2015 6:44 pm By the 7th of March the house was clad and the plastering had started! Everything happened so quick. My uncle is doing the electrical wiring, so he was in there as soon as the wrapping had started and got everything wired up ready, so it all just went gangbusters! The house is only two bedroom, but feels very spacious. We are so happy with the amazing view, and the cladding was just how we pictured! As you can tell I'm still so excited about our house and seeing it take shape. So here is the view from the front woohoo! But as you can see, that big hideous green waste water tank has to go somewhere... And thus brings us to our first big disaster, but we shall get to that soon... We have downlights, oven, rangehood, stovetop, powerpoints etc so they all need power. Trust me - it will make sense later on! The blue steel brackets are just there holding the plasterboards tight while they dry in place as there had to be a few joins in places. The items poking out from the floor is the plumbing for the sink and power etc for the island bench. I'll be able to wash dishes looking out at that amazing view! The day before, I ran into the builder and he said 'gee the paint is black' and I started to stress that it would look awful! So the next night I drove out to have a look. It was just on sunset, so yes it does look really black, but I am actually thrilled with the colour. There are people who have said we should have done it a light colour (like the cladding looked before), but I had wanted something different - sort of beach meets bush. Each to their own I guess. What do you think? So this was officially our first 'problem' ( along with the waste water tank which I will get to shortly). But the builders pointed out the leak then promptly fixed it. So yay! Before we painted I had no idea how many different shades of white there were! The painters only done a couple of coats, but you get the idea. The roof is Dulux White on white, and the walls are dulux natural white. Being Tasmanian, we decided on Tas Oak for the flooring - we love the colours you get with it! The floor has been sanded back so looks very rough, but once the top coat goes on it will look shiny and gorgeous! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is looking out the back. Our Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=74717 Re: Tasmanian First Home Builders - Our House 25May 04, 2015 7:49 pm The 27th of March - the day of the waste water tank Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Ahhhhh! Right in our picturesque view, our ugly green tank goes in! It has to have an irrigation bed of a certain size (huge) and thus had to be buried in a large area. Our block is full of rock, we already had rain water tanks going down the side of our house, so the only suitable spot was in the front garden... They bought in a 20 tonne excavator to try and get through the rock. If you look on the right hand side of the picture you can see the chunks of rock that came out. They went down as far as they could, and the thing still stood half way out of the ground! Who wants to look at their poo filter all day. But, we are choosing to make the most of a 'crappy' situation. We brought in loads of dirt to try and bury it more, and will be designing a garden to try and cover the thing somehow. I guess if that's our biggest problem, we aren't doing too bad.. I hope. Our Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=74717 Re: Tasmanian First Home Builders - Our House 26May 04, 2015 8:04 pm The 11th of April, the house had been painted all over. The dreaded waste water was a little less conspicuous, but still hideous I can't wait to try and hide it. Things inside were moving slowly, painting etc. My boyfriend has a lot more photos of all the details, but hasn't uploaded any. So I just have outside shots: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ In the next photo (back of house) you will notice a frame on the right hand side of the roof. It's for our Apricus Solar hot water system. We are also installing hot water diverters on most of our taps, so when you turn the hot wtaer tap on, all the cold water that starts coming out runs straight back to the tank, and then once the water reaches temperature, it then starts coming out of the tap. I hope that makes sense... Everything starts going in next week, ready for the benchtops to be installed on the 14th of May. I think I will be most excited to see the kitchen and bathroom take shape. They have waterproofed the ensuite so I think tiling will start this week! Can't wait! Yes a great view of the strait! We got a phone call early this morning from our builder letting us know the tiler was starting today. The weather is atrocious so a good excuse to get some indoor jobs done. I'm working the next few days but will post pics Friday of the tiling. They have only done the ensuite floor so far. Your little slice of Tassie is so pretty, I love Tassie, my in-laws have a little holiday place in Bicheno on the east coast. We are very happy so far. I lived in Vic for about 9 years growing up, but I really still feel Tassie will always be home. The only downside to living/building here is the temperature - being a little one, I really feel the cold and wish the state was just a tad warmer! I'm betting you don't have that problem! I really love Bicheno. I've stayed there a few times while visiting friends who own the nature/wildlife park there. It's a beautiful spot! Similar to here actually - very beach meets bush! I did go to our build site today and had a look at the tiling, but couldn't get a good pic because it is dark and stormy here. Hopefully I can get some on Friday. It's looking good though. I'm happy with the colour of tile. They are a dark charcoal colour and I was worried it would make the ensuite feel very small, but I think it's going to be good! Our Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=74717 Re: Tasmanian First Home Builders - Tasmania Custom Build 34May 06, 2015 7:04 pm Hi Amaroo I agree with temp comment and the only cure is a nice big fireplace. I have come across few Queenslanders that settled in Tassie cos they had enough of oppressive heat. I like your windows. Who is the supplier? Reason I ask is that I am planning my cottage extension. We only have a small place so we have gone with one of these Morsoe fires: http://international.morsoe.com/morsoe-s10-40 It's currently sitting in our shed. I presume it will go in once the flooring is finished as it has a glass hearth that will just sit on our timber floor. Our windows were made by a local company - Clark Windows in Smithton. They are absolutely spot on to what we wanted. Sometimes I get out my original drawing and compare it with what the house looks like now, and I'm really pleased at how much everyone has tried to keep our dream design the same. The windows are double glazed, but I didn't want any tint - I love natural light, and love the warm, so bring on the sun I say! if it gets too hot I will open the doors and windows! My build thread: Custom build on 40 acres viewtopic.php?f=31&t=75656 Re: Tasmanian First Home Builders - Tasmania Custom Build 37May 08, 2015 3:21 pm Unfortunately we have decided to have the flue going straight up through ceiling - not a wall concealed flue, so there won't be much room on top. This is a pic of it sitting in the shed. The glass door is still in the box - it looks very swish. I'll drop by over the weekend to get… 5 27738 I'd get the gutters to match your roof and pipes to match the paint - otherwise they become a feature. Nice pick with the paint colours! 1 34273 6 55355 |
