Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 26, 2014 12:41 pm Hi all, On numerous threads people are venting their frustration at long waits from slab down to brickies. We are currently at 10 weeks (and many promises) since slab down and no sign of bricklayers. Could others please share how long you waited for brickies (or are currently still waiting)? I am trying to work out if my annoyance level is justified. Cheers. When we thought we wouldn't have any before Christmas it was a very frustrating feeling As a side note, we looked at building with Aspireon, do you have a build thread I can follow? Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=70984 Re: WA Brickie Shortage - How long did you wait? 3Nov 26, 2014 1:10 pm I waited just under six weeks earlier this year. Slab went down in March, bricklaying started in April 2014. I thought it was pretty bad at the time, but it seems to be much worse these days. I feel for you. Re: WA Brickie Shortage - How long did you wait? 4Nov 26, 2014 2:24 pm We also had to wait just over 6 weeks. Annoying mostly because when the slab was poured they told us 3-4 weeks so 6 seemed ridiculous. However, seeing how long others have waited I won't complain. Our poor future neighbors have been waiting almost 12 weeks now! I second that motion about wanting to know more about your build with Aspireon. We also gave them a very serious look and had a floor plan priced out, but just couldn't quite get what we wanted. Every time I see one of their signs I have a little bit of buyer's remorse. I so loved their display in Wandi. Hope your build is going well besides the long wait for brickies. Re: WA Brickie Shortage - How long did you wait? 5Nov 26, 2014 2:39 pm I waited just 3 weeks - Slab went down in June and brickies started in July, but I think that was purely just luck of the draw. I so loved their display in Wandi. Hope your build is going well besides the long wait for brickies. I've been putting off starting a build thread because I have been really busy with work and other commitments but now it's nearly the end of the year and everything is slowing down a bit, I think I may. I feel quite voyeuristic checking out everyone else's builds and not contributing much. We based our design on the Wandi display but nowhere near as flashy. Apart from seriously problematic communication and some small issues associated with that, we are still really excited (perhaps naively so) about our build and looking forward to seeing it all take shape. VinesBuild We waited 12 weeks arghh 12 weeks, hope everything sped along after that?! Slab down in June, brickies in August Re: WA Brickie Shortage - How long did you wait? 10Nov 26, 2014 7:48 pm Contrary to others on here but we've just been told we should have a brickie before Christmas. Our pad was laid on Monday. That would be less than four weeks. I've got my fingers crossed. Re: WA Brickie Shortage - How long did you wait? 12Nov 26, 2014 8:08 pm During the wait for brickies, were you guys kept informed by the CLOs? Or was it just silence from the builders and you were left wondering what is happening? Its depressing! Apart from a few who've had a good ride. How long did it take between building permit and getting site works or your slab down? Or was it just silence from the builders and you were left wondering what is happening? Mainly silence. Then a start date. Then that date passed. Now more silence. Beazley77 How long did it take between building permit and getting site works or your slab down? We had permit on 9 Sept and slab poured on 17 Sept. Ahaha just watching 9 news with a report on the brickie shortage. I don't mind a wait if I have to, but I really don't want some one man band bickie whose giving it a go because you can earn good $... hopefully reputable builders will use reputable bricks... Re: WA Brickie Shortage - How long did you wait? 17Nov 26, 2014 9:37 pm We have JUST got a brickie today - slab went down on the 14th August so almost 15 weeks Re: WA Brickie Shortage - How long did you wait? 18Nov 26, 2014 9:47 pm By the way I really like the FB page. We currently live in Cockburn, though unfortunately moving out of it once the new home is done. Re: WA Brickie Shortage - How long did you wait? 19Nov 26, 2014 10:10 pm We waited 4 weeks but our 1 man brickie was slow and it took 8.5 weeks to finish after he was taken off our job after 6 weeks and barely half complete. My sister's brickwork just started today and they have waited 14weeks. It's not good enough in my opinion. Reckon it would have been more if I hadn't been jumping up and down prior just trying to get to construction stage. I've learnt she who yells the loudest does get heard. Shame it had to come to that though. 1 13127 No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11586 Congratulations! Nice to put that to bed before christmas, now you can relax 3 7183 |
