It all comes down personal preference and budget. We chose to make higher ceilings a priority because we like the idea of space. We would have like to have gone to 3m downstairs but the cost increases exponentially once you get to 3m due to the additional steel required. You wouldn't want a bed under a ceiling fan if the roof is only 2450mm. My cousin got a gash on her head when she stood up on her bed, forgetting the fan was on. I think it makes a big difference in terms of space and feel... For our new home it only costed 2.4k to raise the first floor to 2580mm so was a no brainer in the end!
