Thanks for posting. Can you please repost your flooring pics? I can't see them . Our build (still in design phase) will be aspirationally modernist as well. Love the style. There's a dinky di modernist home for sale around the corner from us, however it's just not quite big enough for us. So beautiful though! Very nice design, love everything about it. If I were to build, it would be very similar. As you can probably tell by my user name I am a big fan of the modernist style. We're renovating our 1960s modernist style home, you can have a look at it in the link in my signature if you're interested. I love the design. Victorian architects seem to have quite a distinctive style emerging. This style was really started in the mid 1900's by very ground breaking architects in the post war period, really kicked off by architects like Frank Lloyd Wright, Mies van der Rohe. It initially took off in the USA, particularly California (Palm Springs is like a modernist mecca) but quickly took hold. Australian architects like Harry Seidler bought it to Australia and put their own local spin on it. Modernism wasn't just about changing the appearance of the home, but also the entire layout and concept changed fundamentally from the traditional pre-war closed layout to a more open planned, entertaining-based layout, with focus on the interior-exterior interface, that is really a part of most new homes today. The great thing about this style of architecture (in my opinion) apart from the slender and sleek appearance and functional layout is that a refurbished modernist home from the 50's or 60's looks and feels like a modernist home built today. It is truly timeless. I think you would be correct in saying there has been a resurgence in modernist style architecture in the last few years or so, especially in the higher end of the price bracket (let's be honest, you can't build a quality, architect designed modernist home these days for less than about $2000-$3000/m2). I think as Australians become a bit more savvy and cultured, we have moved away from the gaudy faux-georgian McMansions etc and moved towards more sleek and slender architecture. My suburb was developed from the late 1950s through to the late 70s, and has a plethora of mid and high spec modernist style homes. There are also some new KDR ones as well. Driving around the suburb, it's very difficult to pinpoint when each home was built in. To me, that is the ultimate compliment for any modern building. On the other side of the coin, if you drive through any housing estates developed between say the 1980's and now, it's easy to pinpoint almost to the year when houses were built, because they're mostly project homes that were designed to meet whatever was "trendy" at the time. Yeah most of our place has 900mm eaves - which is really a no-brainer in Queensland. Except for when you drive around the new housing estates and see houses with hardly any or zero eaves....you think WTF??? Almost every room in our house has full height glass to some extent. Our master bedroom has full height glass on 3 sides - it's a beautiful room, being up high we get amazing cool bay breezes coming through which is great on those warm night. Like others have said though I am having trouble seeing your images, only a few of them are showing up properly... would be great to see them Building Services Engineer Renovating our 1960's modernist home in Brisbane https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=82091 Re: Modernist Inspired House Build 56Feb 26, 2016 10:41 pm Can you see the 2 inside pics above???
