Re: Modernist Inspired House Build 11Nov 25, 2014 11:46 pm Hi StructuralGuy Slab is fully engineered to suit Polished internal areas (extra thickness) including extra reinforcing. Slab also is suspended in parts as the block is sloping. Living / Dining / Kitchen area is block pier and timber joists.......you will always get cracks in concrete no matter what......we have a pebble mix included which when polished (retro grind) will hide any small cracks... I can't tell where you are but it looks very coastal Victorian. We are also orchestrating a build from overseas but I think we've taken a few easy options in comparison to you. I look forward to seeing your build progress. http://www.housebythewater.wordpress.com From blank block to new home in Mandurah, Western Australia. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65564 Re: Modernist Inspired House Build 13Nov 26, 2014 7:51 am Modernist71 Hi StructuralGuy ......you will always get cracks in concrete no matter what...... That is very true..the secret is to anticipate & locate the possible cracking, control and disguise. LOL, I tell people theres a bit more science involved than an architect breaking (which was entertaining at the time) a voodoo model. Modernist71 we have a pebble mix included which when polished (retro grind) will hide any small cracks... As a concretor/engineer I am use to small cracking its the big ones that irk the client I'd love to see finished photos please post them Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Modernist Inspired House Build 14Nov 26, 2014 8:43 pm Had all our Black Butt floorboards stolen this week.....thousands of dollars worth......builder is not happy at all..... Not a very subtle item to steal. http://www.housebythewater.wordpress.com From blank block to new home in Mandurah, Western Australia. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65564 Re: Modernist Inspired House Build 16Nov 27, 2014 5:41 am Great design, beautiful facade. I too am building while living overseas, would love to hear some of the challenges (if any) you have encountered so far. We are only at the design stage atm. Hope somehow you are able to catch the flooring thief, how annoying! Custom build! Re: Modernist Inspired House Build 17Nov 28, 2014 9:58 am Guarantee it would be someone with a truck and hiab. If the timber was inside the security fence they would just back it up and lift it over the fence. In and out pretty quick. Stewie Re: Modernist Inspired House Build 18Nov 28, 2014 12:06 pm Stew, Just found out from the builder it was laid out inside ready to lay. House was locked up. Builder believes that they entered via an unlocked window, then unlocked the door into the garage. They took all the long lengths and left all the short pieces.....Grr viewtopic.php?f=31&t=74511 Re: Modernist Inspired House Build 19Nov 28, 2014 1:44 pm They would have to be onsite for a while to do all that. Nobody passing thought it would be unusual for tradies to be unloading/loading a truck in the wee hours ?
