We are getting that feeling of optimism we had when we first met our building consultant who was consistently amazing. I think painting will be another big change in how things look and of course the kitchen benchtop... Even our neighbours were discussing all the trades and saying they are all pleasant boys Re: Adelaide Designer Homes 2015 Tiling/Stone & Painting nex 571Oct 17, 2015 9:24 pm Fabulous news The kitchen benchtops will look fantastic. You had me all worried so I checked my contract. Same as you ...20mm in bathrooms and 40mm in kitchen -- phew! That's where you notice it. All is well for both of us! Your place is going to be amazing ... Love your kitchen Re: Adelaide Designer Homes 2015 Tiling/Stone & Painting nex 572Oct 17, 2015 9:27 pm TomCat Fabulous news The kitchen benchtops will look fantastic. What colour stone are you having? Re: Adelaide Designer Homes 2015 Tiling/Stone & Painting nex 573Oct 17, 2015 11:12 pm I'm glad you posted coz if our stone goes in the bathrooms first and I panic, at least I know what's coming Ours is very similar to yours. White Ceasarstone called 'Ice Snow' I think. But maybe the stone chunk 'bits' are smaller in ours. I have waterfall edges on both the cooking and island bench which was the most expensive part of our installation. Re: Adelaide Designer Homes 2015 Tiling/Stone & Painting nex 574Oct 18, 2015 10:26 pm Great minds TC, ours are ice snow too . Super exciting week for you bluey, bring on the painters and last little bit of tiling. Have you started growing plants in pots for the new place?? Weird question I know, I've just out laid $1100 for plants in the last fortnight and I'm still not done Re: Adelaide Designer Homes 2015 Tiling/Stone & Painting nex 575Oct 18, 2015 10:39 pm Funny you should ask Tribe! Was going to post about this. Last house I used all tubestock - for the front yard about $100 worth looked great after about 3 years. I bought tubestock again for this house a few months ago.....but haven't been very good at looking after them there have been a few ie many that have died..... I will do a tubestock garden again - tubestock establish very well in the ground - also at 99c -$2 a plant its pretty cheap. Front garden plant budget will be about $200 Think about some tubestock...looks pretty pathetic to start but comes up pretty well, fernview is very good - they pack their plants really well. Re: Adelaide Designer Homes 2015 Tiling/Stone & Painting nex 576Oct 18, 2015 10:51 pm That's good your going with the tube stock, there are a good range of them available which helps. Whoops about the dead ones. I can't find any tropicals in tube stock though . I did go to a wholesale nursery and got some super good bargains (foxtail palms for $66 and they are almost as tall as me 168cm) What kind of plants are you using? Re: Adelaide Designer Homes 2015 Tiling/Stone & Painting nex 577Oct 18, 2015 11:11 pm The plan was to use Natives that I have used before and can't kill (remember SA is harsh...) Westringias, Tom thumbs eunonymus, Acacias, Correas and myoporum.....but am now wondering if I should go succulents so not buying any plants till I decide. I think it would be hard to do tropical in tubestock - you are getting good prices and big plants! (v envious : )) Re: Adelaide Designer Homes 2015 Tiling/Stone & Painting nex 578Oct 19, 2015 10:22 pm When we lived in tassie (similar harsh climate) we had a full cottage garden with agapanthus, rock rose, daisies, hydrangeas, gazanias, azaleas, bulbs like john quills, freesias, daffodils, Chinese maples, rhododendrons and orchids (I was so surprised they grew in the ground ) it was hard work keeping it nice but it looked beautiful. Using natives is a good idea, you could use succulents as ground cover like pig face and then things like mother inlaws tongue for height. The Tom thumbs are pretty I like those. I didn't buy any until we moved as I didn't know what style of garden I wanted. I found some pretty pink/red cordelines (they will go nicely with the front doors ) There is just so much to think about, we have spent the weekend building our garden bed edging. I hadn't even considered that . Agree tube stock tropicals is a no go. I found 6 wholesale nurseries in the suburb behind us and 2 of them stock bunnings. One out at pimpama stocks a heap of Victorian nurseries. If you can find a wholesale nursery you will save a bundle. Hope you got to sneak a peak at your painting today Re: Adelaide Designer Homes 2015 Tiling/Stone & Painting nex 579Oct 20, 2015 7:04 am Wow you lived in Tassie, must have bee n a shock from QLD! Cordylines sound pretty along with everything else! Saw the painted garage ceiling but every other window was taped up for painting so didn't see anything else, tilers are back today for kids bathroom to start and the eave/soffit lining started yesterday. Pig face and mother in laws tongue was exactly what I was thinking not sure if they will look good mixed with natives have to start googling for inspiration.....because it will be the height of summer I have decided to spend time on everything else but not the garden and start that in April next year. But we will get turf down.....all 250sqm.... Re: Adelaide Designer Homes 2015 Tiling/Stone & Painting nex 580Oct 20, 2015 9:25 am Hehhehe other way, we both grew up in tassie and moved to qld. They will be pretty when I get to plant them Ohhh that's a great sign though, fingers crossed you can go for a look soon. Wow home straight for tiling too. You have a army of trades at your place this week. Gosh at this rate you will get keys next week . I had mother inlaws tongue and pig face together at our old house and it looks good Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ look under the balcony the mother inlaws tongue is at the back and pig face filling the planter along with frangipanis (excuse the wildness I hadn't trimmed it back) What about grass trees?
