Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 13, 2014 9:39 pm Hi everyone, I've attached a couple of photos of one of our side fences. We received a letter for a quote from our neighbour's builder & paid half for the fence to be built. This was a few months ago & after the fence was built we drove past one weekend & saw our neighbour's had cut out a metre of the fence to use a bobcat to get soil into their backyard. They didn't ask or even let us know they were doing this. We've been looking at our house lately as it is getting closer to handover & decided to inspect the fence. Well where they 'fixed' what they cut out is a complete mess & I'm quite annoyed with the whole situation . How would you suggest going about getting them to fix the problem they created? By doing what they did - trespassing on your property without your permission, using your property as a traffic area, again without your permission, not restoring the fence to how it was before etc etc means they already don't give a RA about you. I'd ask them to fix it properly and if they don't, well either live with it or fix it at your expense as per what B STAR says. Unfortunately you can't choose either your family or your neighbours and if they want to go down that path well the boundaries have already been set. Stewie Re: Neighbour Fence Issue - Advice or help please 4Nov 16, 2014 6:11 pm Thanks guys, I was hoping I could go through to council or cops to make them fix it but by what you have both said it seems we will have to speak to them directly. I won't be paying to fix it, I don't want to be friends with them to begin with so telling them what needs to be done won't be a problem. They are already **** me up the wall with their yapping barking dog everytime we visit our site. Anyways will have to have a word with them and see what happens wish me luck Re: Neighbour Fence Issue - Advice or help please 5Nov 16, 2014 7:37 pm "Good luck" Yep, go speak to him. He might even turn out to be ok. Some people just aren't fussy and see things differently (he genuinely might not have noticed it looks bad). We had much worse problems with our 'neighbour' over fencing/retaining. He's a bonefide a**** that jumped up and down, sweated bile, barked like a rabid dog etc whenever we tried talking to him about his cut and fill/retaining ... All tactics for trying to get out of paying for anything CLOSE to his share. Some people are a disgrace. Thankfully he's not living next to us, he's renting his house out. Re: Neighbour Fence Issue - Advice or help please 6Nov 16, 2014 7:48 pm B STAR i wouldnt be happy but pick your battles. Each one of those palings are about $1 each. +1 Tell them you aren't happy with it, but as others have mentioned, they may be genuinely oblivious that they've caused you any distress, and may really want to make amends. If you go in all guns blazing, you may start a raging fire that you have to live next door to! But if they are inconsiderate a$$hats who don't see the issue and refuse to come to the party, we'll I guess it's your call from there... Go in gently and politely, you can always turn and really give it to them from there if they act like idiots, but not the other way around. Re: Neighbour Fence Issue - Advice or help please 7Nov 16, 2014 7:59 pm Thanks TomCat & deluxes don't worry I'll start it off politely and see how it goes from there. I'm not one for confrontation unless they go nuts at me first. Oh and he is actually a she, they both are...so should be interesting I don't even think they have bothered looking at how it turned out on our side. Inconsiderate people who shouldn't have been on our property in the first place. TomCat that guy sounds like an a hole thank god hes only the landlord. I'm not going to win neighbour of the year with these ladies as I will start complaining about their dog too after the fence situation is sorted. That little thing really gets me riled up lol Re: Neighbour Fence Issue - Advice or help please 8Nov 16, 2014 8:04 pm It's a tricky position to be in! You rile yourself up, imaginine all these scenarios... I know. We've had shocking neighbours ourselves. They souNd quite annoying... Very inconsiderate at the very least! I have my fingers crossed that when you do speak they are reasonable about it. At least so you don't have to be complete enemies!
