Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 13, 2014 7:26 pm I want to go for a dark/dark combination for the roof and bricks. Boral Grey Stone bricks with Monument colorbond roof. Am hoping over time SE Qld sun should also fade the brick's colour to a lighter shade of grey. Am breaking up the colour with Surfmist colourbond fascia and window frames and Shalegrey garage. Will this look odd? Will it be too hot inside? My second option is to change the roof to Windspray, but am worried it will look off white in the sun. If I take Windspray roof, I was going to change the garage to Monument. I will have 2.5 ceiling insulation and 1.3 Anticon for the roof. External walls only has reflective sheet, no insulation. Am confused. :\ Re: Another dark/dark colour question 2Nov 13, 2014 7:48 pm I think it will probably look alright, but it would be VERY hot. Even though you have all the insulation and such, never hurts to do even more to reduce the heat coming in. If you were in Melbourne I'd say you could maybe get away with it, but seems silly to pay more to keep the house cool if you can do something to avoid it. Maybe try M's envisage studio, you can try out different colours on a façade and get a feel for the look? Best of luck. Thanks for that website Aloenyx, I never knew about it Gives me a way clearer idea on the colour combinations now. Cheers. Re: Another dark/dark colour question 4Nov 13, 2014 8:50 pm I would suppose that brick fading to the degree you would want would take several years of sun exposure. A surfmist or shale grey roof might be a good compromise with your bricks.....? Re: Another dark/dark colour question 5Nov 14, 2014 7:58 am IMHO, if going with dark colours in Queensland, I would want better than 2.5 insulation in the ceiling. We were only charged a few hundred to upgrade our insulation, have you asked how much it would cost? Re: Another dark/dark colour question 6Nov 14, 2014 12:19 pm @Treeseachanger, Yeah you are right. That M's envisage studio has been really helpful. Playing around with some more colours. Changed the Grey Stone bricks though. @Forg, they are charging me @2850 plus admin fee for just adding Anticon. So changing to lighter colour bricks now. Am playing around with Alpine bricks (Boral) with Red Manor colorbond roof at the moment in that envisage website. Another dark/dark colour question 8Jan 01, 2015 1:20 am We had people trying to convince us not to go dark dark.. We have a black roof, black pavers and black window frames and dark render so glad we didn't listen our house came out exactly how we wanted it to..but we do have the brushed aluminium garage doors to tone it down a little Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Design by Greater Concept - modified version Evolution Court Build by Premiere Homes My build viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64854 Re: Another dark/dark colour question 10Jan 01, 2015 1:49 am Lol thanks Melsie Design by Greater Concept - modified version Evolution Court Build by Premiere Homes My build viewtopic.php?f=31&t=64854 Re: Another dark/dark colour question 12Jan 01, 2015 9:41 am but Melsie really really likes the facade (as do I).
