We have been told it will cost around $3000 to upgrade to H2 termite resistant wood for the frame and ceiling. We're pretty tight on our budget but it does seem like it could be a good investment to save money long term (though I did read this: http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=66062&p=1264538&hilit=termite#p1264538 and I was hoping to avoid the annual cost of having the house checked. Naive?) so I'm trying to get some more information. However, I can't seem to find anyone's opinions of what it's actually like to build with. From what I read it seems like the wood is pressure treated with chemicals. I'm wondering if there are any issues with having these chemicals around children (even though they are inside the walls we will still be knocking nails in to it to hang things). I have also read that termites will actually eat treated wood if there is nothing else available. We're in SA doing a knock down/rebuild if that's of any assistance. Thanks. How much was your upgrade per m2? I am currently going thru the process of deciding whether I should do it. The upgrade to treated timber will cost us $15/m2. Yes, neither is termite damage that is not covered by your house insurance. 3 6575 4 1852 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15904 |
