Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 10, 2014 1:43 pm Hi all, Have found this forum really helpful with helping us choose a builder, all of you are building such beautiful houses! We are planning on building a Stradbroke 29 on 700m2 just south of Sydney. We are going with the Elegance inclusions that Coral are currently offering, and are going for the included flooring option with the Allure promotion they are currently doing. We have the option of selecting carpet and tiling, or carpet and the wood look laminate. Do any of you have any suggestions as to which would be better? I have heard that the laminate can be a bit risky in terms of water damage since we have little kids and it will be laid in the kitchen. Has anyone had any experience with water damage? Or other things we should know about? Thanks Re: Coral Homes build SW Sydney 2Nov 10, 2014 8:16 pm Hi adkd87, welcome to H1, good to have another Coral builder on here. I have had the laminate before and it was great, but I never had it in the kitchen and there were no children. It is true that you cannot get it soaking wet, I used to mop it with just a mist spray. The good thing about it is it is easy to replace in a few years if you want to whereas tiles are very, very hard to change. Look forward to seeing your build, where are you at in the process. Thanks for the advice, I can see that it would definitely be easier to replace the laminate vs tiles. I'll have to look into how risky it is having it in the kitchen. We arent that far in to the process..we purchased land back in june but are still waiting for it to register. They have until march but hoping it will be done sooner. We've paid the 1600 so hopefully they'll let them in to get soil tests etc done soon. Other than that just contemplating colours and options etc. Sooo much to think about! You are building too?? Sure are, land was registered in July, 3 months later than they originally told us, but it worked out ok and now we are only a few weeks from moving in, hopefully early December if everything goes all right. It is not the regular Quickstep product!. Sometimes easements are unused and 24cm is not all that much. Good luck. And yes any builder… 2 13775 In Qld it is a requirement that a builder must have a cost breakdown, for building a home to the same specification, with the same inclusions and the same finish. So ask… 1 4352 Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 7 17616 |
