Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 08, 2014 10:02 pm Hi Currently am building a new home on a slopping block with cyprus stumps and partical board yellow tounge flooring as the subfloor. We have narrowed our flooring option down to 2 flooring types: vinyl planks at $80 a m2 + $28 a m2 for an additional type of flooring that has to go ontop of the partical board some type of sheeting. 13mm hardwood timber overlay $140 m2 I just want to make the right decision i really like my timber flooring and vinyl is not timber and for a additional cost seems really worth it to me. but i dont want to be the floor nazi with scratches etc the house is being built in north qld and unsure how both these products go up here with extra humidity movement. i have read all the horror stories about both blanks lifting in corner wood cup etc if the vinyl planks were $80m2 would seem like a bit of a saving but since they have to put down that extra cement sheet flooring. chews up most your saving. so really i dont know hence why i am here asking around Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 11486 Newbie question for flooring options.
