Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 29, 2014 4:26 pm Hello all! I have spent many months reading thread after thread on this wonderful forum. I have so far been able to find answers to any questions regarding the whole building process just by searching, however I have now come to a point where i haven't been able to find an answer. We are currently getting our site scraped and i have contacted a private building consultant about getting some independent inspections done. However, he has said that it is not needed as Plantation have engaged a private certifier. Is this a fair call? Can i be satisfied that the certifier will pick up any issues? Or am i better off trying to find another person for some independent inspections during construction? I found it odd that someone would turn down business. Thanks for any advice! Re: Plantation Beckham KDR in Carina Heights, QLD 2Oct 29, 2014 4:33 pm Hi, another Beckham build to follow! Yes i would still hire an independent inspector regardless, clearly he doesn't want the business so i would look at other companies who are more willing to take the job. It's a matter of who your SS has allocated to your job therefore you may get some tradesman who don't pride themselves in their workmanship or you can have the perfect build where all trades are 100% perfect (never!) Second Build, this time with Carlisle 2016, can't wait! Your build has been an awesome reference for us by the way. Very informative! I thought it was a bit strange that he wouldn't want the business, must be quite busy at the moment. We have friends who built with Plantation at the start of the year and they didn't use an independent inspector - they just dropped by regularly and mentioned anything that didn't look right to the SS. I'll look around and see who else i can find willing to do some inspections for us. Over the next few days i'll try to get some pictures up of our site, and colour selections, etc Re: Plantation Beckham KDR in Carina Heights, QLD 4Nov 10, 2014 10:23 pm Hi skarekrow, hows your build coming along? Did u managed to hire an independent inspector who would take on the job?! Still so weird to hear. U must either have ur slab poured or very very close now! Exciting times ahead... I would definitely recommend getting an independent inspector. Our builder has a private certifier but we still hired an independent inspector and he picked up structural issues the certifier didn't.
