Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 27, 2014 8:37 pm Hi everyone, I'm hoping for some opinions (good and/or bad) and advice on whether you think the below colour combinations work. My husband and I are building our first home and I cannot believe just how hard choosing a brick is. Actually choosing a brick is quite easy, but the bricks we like are well out of our budget ($6k+), so we're trying to stick with the Cat 1 choices, which is the difficult part. We're leaning towards Austral Homestead Redgum with the following render colours. I've never been really keen on red bricks, but I think they're the best of a bad bunch. The first picture is a mock up I've done using Australs 3D Visualiser, the picture at the bottom is the actual Façade we've chosen with our builder. So now we have to imagine these colours on that façade. Honest opinions greatly appreciated as we really have no idea what we're doing Thanks! JP Re: Facade colour advice/help 2Oct 27, 2014 9:06 pm Looks good to me. I like red bricks. They seem to be timeless. You've chosen a lovely facade- congratulations. BTW Just something to consider ... If the front of your house faces west, the dark garage door will make your garage stinking hot in summer. Re: Facade colour advice/help 4Oct 28, 2014 9:40 am Thanks for your honest feedback d@n, really appreciate that. Thanks to you also TomCat - the front of our house does face west and I hadn't considered that. Re: Facade colour advice/help 5Oct 29, 2014 2:14 pm I'll just quickly second the advice re the dark garage door. My house faces east and I have a dark garage door. Even facing east the garage is hot. Not even summer yet. But saying that, I don't know what difference a light coloured door would make! Re: Facade colour advice/help 6Oct 29, 2014 5:56 pm I think it looks nice, from my browsing of local estates red brick with grey render looks really nice. The darker colour you have is nice, but maybe too dark.. my only concern with that is it might draw in heat. Oh, my house is west facing, hadn't considered a dark garage door causing heat build up. Re: Facade colour advice/help 7Oct 29, 2014 7:24 pm It will make a LOT of difference. Dark colours absorb heat. White reflects it. Once you get an air pocket of hot air (like inside a garage), it will transfer into your house quite easily. Also, dark roofs are a trend but they are completely energy inefficient. I love the look of a dark roof, but the heat build up in the roof cavity made me decide against my style preferences. West gets the brunt of the afternoon sun which is very intense. Re: Facade colour advice/help 9Nov 09, 2014 1:50 pm Re: Facade colour advice/help 10Nov 09, 2014 8:31 pm Doh TC, we've chosen light 'cotton' bricks and dark 'monument' roof tiles and garage door. Now you're making me think of the heat issues .... though we are in Victoria, so only in the annual summer heatwave should this be a big problem Re: Facade colour advice/help 11Nov 09, 2014 10:00 pm Your cotton bricks are gorgeous. And so is your Monument roof even though it will attract and retain heat. It's very trendy to have dark roofs, so of course you wouldn't even think of it Builders (or their 'energy raters') should be speaking up, steering peeps towards lighter colours. There's a very interesting article on the ABC's website where the author says how 'stupid' it is to have a black roof in Australia. Was pretty hot a few days ago and i remember coming home and saying to hubby how cool it felt inside than outside. but we live in victoria and heat dont affect us much only a few weeks in the year!!! Our energy rating came at 6.5 stars... pretty good i reckon Thank you @. Tried to play with the facade models but the exact colour is not matching up. 2 3269 Dear Members I have to decide the Facade column size. My custom builder standard is 350mm with rendering, but i asked for 470mm plus stone or tiles and yet to get… 0 7497 traditional gable roof facade - Have you did the dark and light gray color combination in facade with gray stone in facade… 0 4212 |
