What a relief to walk through and feel good Re: Sterling custom on 10 acres Adelaide. 62Sep 17, 2015 12:30 am Sound like its moving along well, hope the frame position is good and inspector keeps on top of it with you. Despite todays bucketing down it is still a nice time to be building! Or timber frame? What a relief to walk through and feel good Yeah having trouble describing it... my understanding is the beam goes write around the edge of the house and slab. One side the beam isn't directly under the outer edge of the slab it is 200mm or more inside it. As if the beam trenches were dug to narrow on that side. But the brickies have started. They seem to think the roof will be put up at the same time. The bricks aren't everyone's cup of tea, We've always liked them though, and were going for a country look to blend into the surrounds. The brickey wasn't so sure though! He reckoned he had them on a house in the 80's. So thats good dated bricks can't date any more! At least they won't need 'washing' but if so, their face won't come off Re: Sterling custom on 10 acres Adelaide. 69Sep 19, 2015 1:43 pm Don't listen to the brickie, the bricks look great. Cheers Tc rustic indeed, sorry to here of your own rustic brick experience. I've got to get on to running some electric / network / speaker cables, putting extra noggins for TV's / drier. Sort out conduit entries for shed / pump power / CCTV it seems the list goes on..... All before the gib board goes on... All these little extras to save a bit of cash. I thought they would wrap the walls like other builders, and once they did I was going to put some reflective sisalation on the Western wall to cut down the heat transfer. Now that the brickies are on site looks like I might of missed the boat. I really like those bricks - stuff what the brickie says!! Re: Sterling custom on 10 acres Adelaide. 73Sep 27, 2015 6:11 am Things are flying along now. Brickies just have part of the garage and all of the front to complete. They are doing an awesome job super tidy, and great chaps too. Roof is on and looks great. We are starting to affectionately call it our New Old house! But blends in with the surrounds nicely. Sympathetic to the surrounds as Kevin from Grand Designs would say! We have a lot more shale grey on the front to come so that may liven it up a little. Sparky and plumber are supposed to make a start on Monday. Using a building inspector at each stage appears to be paying off at this stage. He seems to be very thorough and I think the builder is aware of it. Time will tell but so far so good. Pics to follow. Re: Sterling custom on 10 acres Adelaide. 78Sep 28, 2015 11:46 pm Thanks guys, Our brickies are old mates from way back now. We left an eskey with some soft drinks and beers for them on Friday, they were stoked. They've been doing a great job for us and doubt the building inspector will ping them for anything. They even suggested moving a couple of the control joints at the front to make it look better. Which was a great idea, so they're running it past the supervisor. So long as it's with in the building standards we'll go with it.
