I cruised round the site with a beer in hand a large magnet on a string in the other. Look, I got half a tin of punctures..... Look how light and bright your house is ... Nice big kitchen window ... Nice big KITCHEN. Lovely layout. And I like the 'hidden' kitchen spouty thing ![]() ![]() ... Yikes! I'm going to show ^ to the mister! Great idea (magnet). Mr T is super cautious when he pulls up at curb ... Tries to park a good few car lengths away. "Don't want a puncture". He's always picking up screws and stuff. Great idea - magnet ![]() Re: Sterling custom on 10 acres Adelaide. 95Nov 04, 2015 9:44 pm ![]() Things are flying along now. Brickies just have part of the garage and all of the front to complete. They are doing an awesome job super tidy, and great chaps too. Roof is on and looks great. We are starting to affectionately call it our New Old house! But blends in with the surrounds nicely. Sympathetic to the surrounds as Kevin from Grand Designs would say! We have a lot more shale grey on the front to come so that may liven it up a little. Sparky and plumber are supposed to make a start on Monday. Using a building inspector at each stage appears to be paying off at this stage. He seems to be very thorough and I think the builder is aware of it. Time will tell but so far so good. Pics to follow. Looks great and I love grand designs Australia!! Especially because we are building, looking forward to following your build ![]() Re: Sterling custom on 10 acres Adelaide. 96Nov 16, 2015 2:55 pm ![]() WOWIE!!! It looks FANTASTIC! Great idea - magnet ![]() Hey TC, Thanks yeah we're really happy with the way things are going, but to be honest I've lowered my care factor towards the end... I did ask the SS about the completion and he said he didn't want to make any promises BUT was hoping for a Christmas hand over! We mentioned this to our building inspector and he didn't think that will be the case. We still have some minor issues to have fixed prior and he's encouraging us to push them to fix prior. Yeah the magnets awesome I've now handed it over to the kids they love it once they've got the bulk of them I'll put a 10c a nail reward up! They however won't be doing it with a beer in hand!! Great to see your build charging ahead, Sounds like you may need to invest in some 'high vis' shopping attire though!!! It has been pretty quiet on site over the last week or so. But has been nice to get down there for a bit of piece and a break from suburbia, without the tradies there. We are living one street back from the beach and a 2 minute walk to an awesome Indian café. So it’s been awesome to take the dog for a walk on the skateboard with a beer in the back pocket and watch the sunset. Our street would have been perfect BUT for the noisiest neighbours on either side and a holiday rental at the back. So between the 3 there is always someone leering up – karma…. So yes for us the novelty of suburbia has worn off and I think it’s done us good. I don’t think we’ll ever take our place for granted!! The tiling is well under way, and the bath was fitted today. A bath YES a bath, we’ve not had a bath in our house for 5 years or more. We’ve got pic’s of the kids bathing in big plastic tubs in the shower when they were little! I managed to rescue some insulation left over and from the skip and put into the roof space as we didn’t pay to have the garage done. I got a couple of bales cheap off gumtree so will have enough to complete it. I was hoping to put some around the bath too as I’m gunna spend HOURs in there! When the SS told us he was aiming for Christmas there was much panic.. Flooring to be finalised and committed too, septic tank to install, retaining and paving prior to flooring. To be honest I was a little relieved when the building inspector called BS on Christmas hand over. We have decided to go with the Karndean, Classic Oak, glued vinyl planks (cheers MnT!) in the living and hall areas and a mushroomy carpet in the rooms. I was planning on doing the retaining myself but time isn’t on our side and there are a few coins left in the tin. Fortunately we’ve a couple of landscaper mates we can call on. At this stage looks like Kanmantoo bluestone boulders and steps at the front. Spread apart to avoid creating a snake haven. Timber look concrete sleepers at the sides, the back will be tapered back. I wanted to use exposed aggregate concrete but I’m a little concerned it will crack given the clay soil. So will most likely be pavers. – 160+ mt2 worth ouch. Oh yeah, then there’s the storm water to lay as well fortunately a mates kindly offed the use of his little excavator. I’ll try to get some pics up soon.. We have Karndean vinyl tiles (black and white 'marble') in our kitchen. Held up really well (15 years with dogs) and look great ![]() Just a quick update.
