Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 21, 2014 12:55 am Hi Wise ones So I have paid the deposit and ground works should start any day now. This presumably follows by the slab. Notice comes today to inform me that my neighbour will be demolishing their house at the same time my slab is being laid. I will ask the builder in the morning but thought I would throw it out there. Worst case scenario and the slab pour is the same day as demo, should I insist on delaying the slab?? Cheers in advance for the comments. If the houses were relatively close plus you were both on rock and the demolisher was using a big excavator I'd say it'd be a recipe for disaster. If there is a fair distance between the two and you're on a sandy soil, you'd probably be fine. It'll depend a lot on the demolisher and how much care they take. If they have to use any big machinery plus large rock breaker to break up slabs/driveways etc that could cause problems too. The demolition contractor won't want to be hauling material off site at the same time as a concrete pump and agitator trucks are outside your place The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! I think common sense would be to have different days if only to reduce collateral disturbance. Great point. Cheers Mark Re: Slab being laid and next door neighbour demolishing.... 6Oct 21, 2014 4:11 pm Safety would be the only real issue IMO, the risk of flying debris injuring someone. Big machinery lumbering around while the slab is being poured would be a good thing. Re: Slab being laid and next door neighbour demolishing.... 7Oct 21, 2014 6:22 pm Have they already commenced the demolishing? Usually they take several days stripping the place out of salvageable items such as roof timbers and floorboards etc, and only when they've got everything they can make a buck off out of the place do they knock it over with machinery. My garage door has started playing up recently. Sometimes (and getting more frequent) when I press the button to open it, it wont. The motor is an ATA GD0-6V3.
